I'm looking for suggestions and ideas to make a mold. I'm thinking of trying to make my own set of front fenders and am not sure what to put down first so I can easily remove the fiberglass "shell" after the resin has hardened. Does anyone have any ideas or suggestions?

I spent around 5 grand in the past 6 months...and my wish is coming true!!!!!

As far as I can tell, yeah, it's still somewhat lean. I have a 230 main coming in the mail and if that doesn't do it, I'll either get the dial a jet or switch back to two carbs. I'm planning on messing with it some more this weekend, hopefully I'll get the issue resolved. It's funny you mentioned PT mids, because I'm thinking about throwing my PT mids on there in place of the Toomeys

That's a really damn good idea, I'm going to check into that

Checked, but didn't have any... Jets I usually get from the dealership, but if they don't have them I'll call Jeff @ FAST and he has them in stock. I haven't had to buy any needles, I've always been lucky to get them with my carbs  I'm sure Jeff can get those for you too.

Haven't got the chance to actually ride any trails with it yet, just make some test runs on a straight path to see how it's running. The needles differ in the shape of their taper. The shape and thickness of the needle makes a big difference in how the gas comes out of the main jet. I actually might be forced to sell of my 2 into 1 carb, cause I read today that keihin only goes up to a 230 main jet, and I'm on 215 now and it's still pretty lean on top. I don't know, time will tell! Dave, the biggest jet I have is a 220, I'll need all of them between 220 and 230. If you got them, I'll gladly pay you...it's been real tough trying to find those, and I don't want to order them from the dealership @ 6 bucks a pop if I don't have to

New porting job complete...

You should lighten up and learn to take constructive criticism. If you hadn't become so defensive the thread wouldn't have turned into what it is.... -

I have a set of stock stroke ported cylinders done by Grand River Racing for sale. They aren't in bad shape at all, but I would recommend having them bored. PM me for pics/price. I can re-polish them for a little extra too. These cylinders ran with 4 mil stock cylinder setups...

You get it built and I'll round up some rear tires for you to run at our track. I look forward to hearing how this turns out! When do you think you'll have it all back together?

Hey, in your title of the post you put "observations" and "comments" and that's what we're doing. If you don't want to take our advice then that's great, we're just telling you from our experiences... I still think your crank is going to separate if you have higher comp w/porting, but hey, you might have super shee for all we know. You asked for our comments and "observations" so don't get your panties in a bunch when you hear them. Also, my new trail banshee has a good amount of bottom end. My friend that rides a 450 even made the comment on how surprised he was at how hard it pulled even in the lower RPM's. They can be built. I'm still working out the bugs on mine too but it'll be a hard running machine throughout the band when I'm done -
What kind of pipes are these?
bigboybanshee replied to WALLACE84's topic in General Banshee Discussion
Those are definitely Grand River Racing's new inframe drag pipes. 100% positive If I could gather up some extra cash I'd love to try a set just for the hell of it, Andy makes damn good pipes  -
Feel free to use this post as much as you want to get your bike dialed in when your carb shows up, I think it's a good idea too. If I were you and had to give it my best guess I'd shoot for a 45 pilot, maybe a 190 main and after switching to it, I definitely recommend picking up the eek needle. That alone made a big difference in how mine ran. I started off in the third spot on the needle. Be prepared to mess with the jetting though, I'd go ahead and pick up a few jets around your starting point cause the chances of it being spot on the first time are slim! lol I personally would ditch the fuel filter, but if you haven't had any problems out of it there really is no reason to get rid of it until it becomes a problem

Hey, if you feel comfortable doing it... I had a friend running less compression than you and the crank started coming apart...didn't jump or anything, but hey, your builder knows his work best...I just wanted to give a heads up  If you want more bottom end, advancing your timing and bigger carbs would be the best ticket. Your compression should already be pretty high with the 19cc domes. Have you done a compression test just to see how much you have? You could gear down one tooth in the front to help with acceleration, but it'll take more off your overall speed and will also have you shifting quicker...Are these tight trails you ride or wide open trails? -

Is that stock crank welded? I'd be a little nervous running raised compression w/porting on a totally stock crank. -
I've never heard of something like this happening before...First thing I checked was the float, it was in spec, and then saw fuel was in fact flowing to the carb, I could only come up with maybe it wasn't flowing fast enough to the carb and the bowl was going dry....but the fact that it would start up after I stopped boggled the shit out of me. We were almost leaning towards electrical, but the fact that it ran like a beast with no sputtering or hesitation (until it dies), that it couldn't be electrical. I have to get some more jets since I only have a 220 left, but will definitely post back with how things turn out. I really appreciate you chiming in on this, I was hoping someone else ran into the same problem
-
Nope, no fuel filter...but I had thought that maybe if the petcock was dirty it would produce the same result. I'm gonna grab some more jets and see what 3 or 4 sizes bigger will do. Banchetta's theory makes good sense to me, and I already need to up the jetting a little...I'm hoping that fixes it, cause I really don't want to spend any more money on this banshee, lol
-
Really? So you had the same problem, it would die as soon as it came on the pipe hard? Cause that's basically what is happening...as soon as it really starts pulling it gives out and wants to die...but will start right up once I stop and pull the choke... Thanks banchetta, it's nice to see you around

That place in your sig looks really cool, I'll have to get my friends together and plan a weekend trip sometime in the late spring or summer time and will definitely let you know when we go. Well, I think I got the jetting issue squared away, but have encountered a new problem, LOL. It "seems" like the carb bowl is running dry. I'll be on it and it'll go for a good distance (enough to get to 6th) and then it will cut out...when I give it gas it just bogs and I'll have to come to a stop, wait a second, pull the choke and it will fire right back up and I can go about the same distance and have to do it again. It was so cold yesterday we didn't mess with it too much, but I'm planning on checking the petcock and making sure it's clean, and if it is clean, I'll remove the hose from the gas cap and see if that helps. I just don't see how those cylinders could be sucking the bowl dry with a 38mm carb and there not be a fuel delivery problem to the carb. As far as the jetting goes, putting that eek needle in there made a night and day difference, cleared the mid-range bog right up. It had some funky needle in it, looked like a really lean needle...it had a strange group of numbers and letters on it not like anything I'd seen before. Kept the 50 pilot, and am on a 215 main right now and will probably go up to a 220. Thanks again for everyone's input

LOL!!
-
Thanks!!! Definitely will do, I'm about to load it up and take it out somewhere where I can open it up as well as change the jetting as needed. Hopefully when I bring it home she'll be dialed in pretty close. Are there any good riding spots in your area? My friends and I are always for good places to ride, and it seems like all the good spots around here are being shut down, or have diminished into nothing.

I know what you mean, every time I watch the vids from last year it gets me going, wishing I could hit the track this weekend  I agree with you 100%, and yes we have tethers on our bikes. I felt that there were much better ways for him to get his point across about the safety gear; it's not like I posted tons of videos of us without gear. I simple friendly "reminder" from him about wearing your proper gear would have been plenty....there was no need for him to be so dramatic about us in t-shirts. What's ironic was I literally just got a padded leather jacket to wear for this upcoming season. I'm aware of the risks involved, and my safety has always been top priority. I want to live to race another day!!! Glad you liked the vids, I'll see if I can find a few more for ya

I didn't get the chance to pull the needle last night, I was running low on time; the wife was wanting me to take her out to dinner, lol. I'm going to pull the needle today though, and I do have an EEK so I may just go ahead and put that in depending on which needle is already in there. Thanks man
-
Here you go...it was one of these two, can't remember which one This one's just for your viewing pleasure

I think I may have got this problem solved. After fixing the floats, dropping the pilot and adjusting the air screw it seems to be purring the same on both cylinders, and is no longer spitting oil out the pipes. Also, what I thought was oil turned out to be gas...it looked black because the inside of the pipe is filthy, lol...I feel stupid  Got to ride it up the cove real quick, it had a mid range bog but once it opened up on the main it ripped pretty hard; I'm real happy so far. I'm gonna mess with the needle tomorrow and try to eliminate that bog. differentstrokes, what setting is your needle on? Thanks again to everyone that helped, I REALLY appreciate it!!
