  1. i finally got my cylinders back from the shop yesterday and all of the rest of my parts arrived today, so i'm ready to start putting her back together. my cylinders seem to be kind of greasy/grimy from the honing. what should i use to clean them up before putting them back together? any other advice for putting the new top end back together would be greatly appreciated. here's what i'm doing: stock bore - honed, wiseco pro lites, noss head w/20cc domes, also adding v3's.
  2. yeah, and a dumb ass bank robber but it made for a good combination.
  3. i looked up craftsman testers on the sears site, and actron stuff is all around it also, with all kinds of testers. the craftsman kit just had a few more hoses and adapters, which i didn't really need anyway. if sears has it along w/craftsman tools, and for the most part you guys seem to approve as well, i'm feeling a lot more confident with the one i bought. thanks guys.
  4. i can't really advise you on which one to go with, but with the stock crank i'm sure you would at least want to get it trued and welded before either of those top end jobs.
  5. well that's not what i wanted to hear thanks anyway
  6. yep, that sounds about right.
  7. that or get a six pack rack and strap on a 1 gal jug if you're going to run out before being able to get back and refuel. your reserve time isn't that out of the ordinary. that .7 gal in reserve is pretty flexible. like nyuk said, at that low level it most likely will get starved for fuel and die. odds are if you let is set for a few minutes and settle, it will probably start up again, not for long though. riding time on a given amount of gas is almost impossible to predict anyway. your set up and your riding style will make it vary from somebody else's, without a doubt. bottom line, don't worry about it bud, it's just fine.
  8. i'd be embarrased to even charge somebody for that if that was all they were buying. glad to see they hooked you up though.
  9. are you getting the carbs back in sync each time you tear them apart? are both of the slides in the correct way, cut out to the air box? are the carb bowls on the correct sides - the left one has a 'starter jet' in the bottom of a tube that's molded into the side of the bowl. you'll see where it opens into the bottom of the bowl. the right doesn't have a jet or opening into the bowl. probably not the case, but double check that the carbs don't have different size pilots. take the gas cap off and try it. you also said that you put in a new fuel filter also, an inline jobby? maybe it's restricting fuel flow. take it off and give it a shot. make sure that all the fuel lines are not restricted and free flowing. do you have the normal 1 to 2 carbs filter set up or a filter on each carb? either way, make sure that the filters clean and there's nothing blocking the intake boots, or no air leaks from cracks etc. that's all i can come up with at the moment. good luck bud.
  10. from what i figured, rmatv would only be about $5 more to order the bearings and a tusk top end gasket kit seperate over magic. the listing i saw said that the wrist pin was included in the kit. so considering i had other things to get as well, and i almost always go to rocky mtn, i dropped the extra $5 on them. but that was for std pistons, oversized may run about $10 more for the two.
  11. i haven't gotten them yet of course, but i just ordered v3's this afternoon. from what i've seen everywhere they are definitely the way to go.
  12. so what about this situation. i just had my cylinders spec'd out at the shop and he said they only need honed, so i ordered new standard size pistons. will it work out ok? yep. i just ordered my piston kits earlier today and had to order the bearings seperate. in my honest opinion, RMATV is the place to go for parts.
  13. yeah bud, how about some info. i'd love to try out some sand sometime and nj is probably the closest for me. i'm in south central pa.
  14. i used to ride wheelies all day on my kx80 years ago, but haven't mastered it yet on the shee either. but just like on the bike, practice-practice-and more practice. i think blippin the throttle and feathering the brake is the trick. soon you'll be the one being asked 'how do you ride wheelies so good on your shee?'
  15. happy b-day lee the site keeps getting better and better thanks bud.
  16. yeah, about every parts store that i went to looking for one had the same thing, so i figured they should be decent too. thanks pipebomb
  17. i had one to use but it was really old and was the kind with just a rubber boot over the nipple and you have to hold it into the head. it always gave varied readings and i don't trust it. so i bought a new one last night. it's an Actron - thread in style, quick disconnect coupler , push button side release, 14mm, 18mm, and 18mm long reach adapters, std and mm scales(0-300lbs)Bourdon tube movement (whatever that is) - $25 anyone ever use this kind? how accurate are they?

  19. a brown bitch in pink panties?? seriously bud, congrats on the new home. i wouldn't trade my miles of farms and woods for any place that has "streets". hope you and your family enjoy the new home and surroundings.
  20. i had to re-read that statement. i thought it said "almost as much as i love cli t"
  21. that's just wrong loco
  22. none that i know of. we're always ripping on the roads to get from trail to trail. never had any problems yet. sure does handle different though.
  23. i'm the shop supervisor at my work and a first responder for the company, so i've made several hospital runs with employees over the years. not my favorite part of the job, but shit happens and somebody has to help out the injured guy/woman. the worst one was one guy had a roll of fiberglass mat (about 500lbs) roll on him and broke both bones in his lower leg. he was alone in the mat room and drug himself into the hallway where somebody finally found him about 30 minutes later. then it took almost 45 minutes for an ambulance to show up. that's pretty bad when there are 4 ambulance companies within about 12 miles, mostly volunteer though, but that sure did open up a can of whoop ass from our company with the ambulance companies. meanwhile we're trying to keep this guy from going into shock etc and keep him stable. he ended up having several surgeries, off work for about a year, and now has a permanent limp, but at least he can still walk. there was a recent fatality at a local company though. some dude rolled a forklift onto himself
  24. yeah, the little guys like to 'help' don't they i saw that my piston skirt was cracked before it came apart, so shee's apart for a rebuild now too. too bad you didn't catch yours sooner. i haven't done it yet, but it doesn't seem like it would be too bad of a job splitting the cases.
