Who are you talking about when you say "this guy"? -
I took Banchetta's advise long time ago and got the Duncan Racing clutch. I like the easy pull, and it hooks up great. That and my Hinson basket were perfect for me.

How Often To Change Tranny Oil?
2001SSTBanshee replied to FoxBansheeRacing's topic in Banshee Repairs and Mods
What are the extra additives? Is that what they told you at a bike shop or something? Lemme guess, they sold you the spectro? The "extra stuff" that people want you to believe is in the spectro oil is most likely Zinc Diethyl Dithiophosphate (ZDPP). This helps protect in metal to metal contact. Metal to metal contact will not occur when there is a good lubrication. "The design of oil is to produce a film of oil between two mating surfaces which gives you the best protection against wear" Ouch! Dont get me started on that lucas crap aka instant foam. Where there is air there is not lubrication. check this out http://www.bobistheoilguy.com/images/lucas/lucas.htm -
How Often To Change Tranny Oil?
2001SSTBanshee replied to FoxBansheeRacing's topic in Banshee Repairs and Mods
So I should go pay $6-$7 a quart or more? Thanks, but no thanks. "motorcycle oils" are no better, and there are usually no major differences in the additives. IMO These additives that you are talking about are friction modifiers and they are NOT in all "motor oils" Do you know who refines Honda oil? Mobil. Stuwart Toomey recomends Castrol 20w50 in the instructions for the Toomey clutch install, check your owner's manual and see what it calls for in the tranny, call Hinson and talk to them about oil, etc., etc., I could go on and on... -
How Often To Change Tranny Oil?
2001SSTBanshee replied to FoxBansheeRacing's topic in Banshee Repairs and Mods
My oil never breaks down or looks dirty. I would probably have a heart attack if it did. Sometimes (usually) I feel like Im riding hard on my clutch. Just because your oil "looks" clean, doesnt mean it is clean. Look closely next time you drain it and you'll see tiny, shiny piecs of the clutch (about the size of sand). This is what happens, and thats why I change my oil all the time -

Had one for almost 3 years, and learned that the bike shop had sold me a stolen bike. I brought it back, (minus ALL my aftermarket parts) , got all my money back and bought a YFZ450. Still have them in my riding group and still work on em. During those 3 yrs I had my 01 I had a 96 come and go, too. I might be getting my frame/motor back though. Its in an impound yard, if the "real" owner (I guess) doesnt pick it up in about 8 more days, I can buy it back with a clean title. Got my eyes on it.

I'll give you an alloy specialists locking axle nut, and the stock swingarm guard. -
I have a YFZ And my fan has never even kicked on. As a matter of fact, Im removing it with the starter and the battery soon. I did order an oversize aluminum oil tank and I will get an oversize radiator, but thats just for my piece of mind. Then agian I ride it like your supposed to and dont let it idle for long periods.

The crank?
-
That's a dam good idea! Never thought of that..
-
I take my chain off and clean it with mineral spirits (safe for the o-rings) and use Honda pro chain lube because it lubes good and doesnt attract dirt like a lot of others.
-
If you ever put slime or fix a flat type products in your tires they WILL shake.
-
I'm glad I already have my YFZ450 in the garage now. A long time ago I was thinking about waiting for the honda to come out for some reason. I dont know what I was thinking!

How bout this I just went through- I wired $350 Western Union to a friend that had a tire blowout a couple hours away from my house. No tire shops in this area had a 20" tire. so I drove and picked him and his car up instead. He never got the money out. A few weeks later I find my original recipt and call the # to see how to get my money back. They tell me they "paid it out"! To who?? My boy is right here and he dam sure did'nt get that money!!! WU tells me they will investigate, wait 2-3 days. Yesterday they call me back and say "Yeah its been paid out". but thats all they will tell me. Supposedly to the person I sent it to. After dam near interrogating the lady I get her to tell me that it was paid in Montecello GA. I tell her this a fraud or something, and that they have to do something else. "WE werent defrauded" she says. "We investigated it and now we're done" I was pissed. I called the sherriff's office in Montecello GA. Luckily the deputy actually took me serious and followed everything up. He traced it, called me back and heres the story I got. Supposedly, someone in GA with the same last name as the person I was trying to send the money to was expecting money from someone. He went in a WU office and asked if there was any money for him. The clerk tells him there's money for that last name but the first name is different. She tells him the name its under, and the guy is like "oh thats my kid".Now this guy goes and gets his 12 yr old kid and WU gives him my money!!! Coincidentally, the same name?? Maybe, probably? I can't decide yet. WU called me back last night with a compleately different attitude. Asking me to fax copies of the person that I wanted to recieve the money and his signatue notarized 3 times. I did it this morning. Now they say I can go get it back finally. They will even give me back the "fee".
