daone1982 Posted August 21, 2008 Report Posted August 21, 2008 Hey whats up everyone im new to the site and to banshees i need a lil advice from you guys to help me make a decision..ok here it goes...im about to buy my first banshee ivealays liked them just never had them money untill now,anyway i have to chioces rite now and not sure which one i should go with...the first one is a bone stock 2005 limited edition,it has maybe 5-10 hours ride time on it...looks like it just rolled out the showroom and the guy is only asking $2500 for it...the second option i have is a 1998 with some kinda drag motor on it,my cousin came in posession of it a few days ago from one of his neighbors...i dont know exactly what internals are in the motor but its supposedly bored 60 over and stroked,it has kein(spelling) race carbs i think there 34mm...basicly just from lookin it looks almost exactly like the motor in the pics i attached just not as wide...it also has toomey t5 exhaust other then that i dont know much else bout it...the guy he got it from said the motor alone cost 3 grand...i might be able if i buy it to get a full run down list of everything on/in the motor from the neighbor but im not sure...anyway my cuz said hell give it to me for 1000 down and i can pay him another 1000 over time so 2 grand all together...at first glance i was gonna do it but now i know it has a few probs so im hesittant..i dont want it to be a money pit...it blows alot of smoke from the right exhaust and also keeps burning plugs in the right cylinder and also leaks a lil oil out out the right exhauster header where the rubber connecter links it to the muffler....so basicly with all that said im askin you guys which one you think is the safer better deal?keep in mind i only have 1000 now and have to save the rest for the 05...should i be patient and get the one i know is basicly brand new or be risky and get the one from my cousin now that is extremly fast(i rode it) but might have a few problems and be a money pit....please help Quote
pinned247 Posted August 21, 2008 Report Posted August 21, 2008 In my opinion, I would go with the stock 05'. If you want to spend money on aftermarket stuff then it will be the way YOU want it. I would much rather put money into something to make it better than to put money into something just to keep it running correctly. It will probably be a headache to get your cuz's running properly not to mention all the little stuff that may need to be done to it and that could add up quickly. Just my 2 cents.... Quote
Face Posted August 21, 2008 Report Posted August 21, 2008 First of all, All banshees are money pits! that said if I had it to do over again I would get the newer one and add your bolt ons rather than fixing someone elses bike. I bought mine used and it had been ridden hard and put away wet, I have spent almost what I paid originally to grt her running right again. Its been fun but also stressfull. Get the 05 and spen the money on what you want for extras! Quote

All these are good points, I also would go for the 05 thats a hell of a deal on that. Thats the fun of it anyway is making it your own. Pipes will be your biggest upgrade from stock then + 4 timing, and noss cool head this will get you going. Dont let that deal get away it will be tough trying to find another like it.
