as the topic says, how much would customs and such be if i were to buy a bike(who knows what) in the states, and bring it back to canada?

i know bikes go for way cheaper down there, so it might be worth buying 1 or 2 while down there, and bring em back, sell 1 and basically pay for the other.

when i was in L.A. we went to a dealership by our hotel, and i could have had a 06 (last years model at the time) out the door for 3000. up here they go for at least 6k.

is this a good idea, or would it end up costing the same by the time its across the border?

also theres no registration or anything to worry about up here if that makes a difference.

not necessarily brand new either...whatevers a good deal

well it will be a bitch, but i know what you are sayin, for 16 pound pipes total taxes were 72 bucks, im in alberta and i know a 07 new would sell for 6500 i am pretty sure that there is alot of paper work invovled you would need to search dealers in the us area and contact them and sort out all and all, i am sure its less then a grand a bike, with that being said, if the dealer will let you buy 2 for like for say 7 grand and then we will say 2 grand to bring em up gas and taxes, so your at 9 grand max imo, then sell one for 6000 so you will be back at 3 grand for a new banshee, great price you would NEVER get that in canada for even an 03 stock bike, i would research some and call some US dealers and just dont tell em your canadain and work out a deal over the phone then drop the bomb, that way they cant go oh this guy is lookin to make some money, i hate canada for the reason of such expensive shit ie. 08 raptor 12 grand

although this doesnt help you figure out how much taxes you would get hit for but you mind sharing what dealership this was at???? 3k for a BRAND NEW bike is unheard of .. Especially in Cali

it was hahm motorsports or powersports or something along those lines. right by disneyland.

it was an rm 125 too and they were making room for the 07s. still a smokin deal i thought though.

he said an 07 i think yfz for 7k out the door. thats when the 07s had only been out for a few months. thats why im thinking of doing this.

im planning on an oregon trip this summer, so i was thinking to pick something up if i have money then, not necessartily a banshee either. maybe a 450 dirtbike. that is if its feasible.

it would be me bringing it across the border on a trailer incase you thought i was planning on getting it shipped, along with mine and a couple other shees on a trailer.

could i just say i had it on the way down, because we dont register them up here there would be no papers anyway, or would they run the vin and all that?

i see gorgeous banshees south of the border go for less than i paid for mine looking all ratty and just pipes....

Maybe this is a stupid question, as I've never been to Canada.

But how will they know you bought it here? Just tell them its yours, you simply took it to the states to go riding, and now you're going back home. From what I've seen crossing the mexican border that would be no problem. Customs agents won't know how to read the VIN numbers to tell where it was sold. Just smear some dirt over it and make it look used.

Now if you have to have it registered up there, that may bring up other problems.

That can be done yes :geek:

And as far as registering it up here...I'm only guessing, but if you buy it from so and so in the states, with all the paper...bring it back to Canada with all the papers...you should be able to change it over to your name. Or hell change it to your name in the states with the guy you bought it from maybe, I dunno.

I've sold vintage MXers on ebay to people over in Europe and basically all that is needed is a notarized Bill of Sale ( the amount can be negotiated since I believe their might be a duty to be charged on the item and it is a good idea to claim it is used and you traded for it) and a notarized letter stating it has never been registered anywhere. The catch is that if the item is used you can get away with a lot more embelishments than an item being new. Claim its used and get paperwork that it is used is what I would do.
