98_banshee_newbie Posted March 6, 2008 Report Posted March 6, 2008 I have a 98 banshee that i bought noy running. But anyway I am new to the shee world but when I pulled the head off coolant went everywhere (Is this norma)I didn't even all the head bolts off yet and there was coolant coming out. Now in my right piston has shavings (little chunks) all on the top piston and inside the head. After realizing this I pushed down on the piston a little and it went down with real ease as if the rod is broke(I am about to check). Plus it seems that my kickstarter is locked up. Any advice please help Quote
BaNsHeeJuNkEy Posted March 6, 2008 Report Posted March 6, 2008 sounds like time for rebuild. make sure you get your self a manual for putting it together and make sure you have the jugs ported if they can be saved. maybe a 4mill crank if yours is junk. Quote
gumby6t9 Posted March 6, 2008 Report Posted March 6, 2008 Did you drain the coolant before removing the head? When you pushed the one piston down did the other move up? Quote
yam_fan Posted March 6, 2008 Report Posted March 6, 2008 If you broke a rod it could be jammed in your case that would explain why your kick starter wont work Quote
bansheejoel Posted March 6, 2008 Report Posted March 6, 2008 to answer your question, yes it is normal for coolant to go everywhere if you dont drain it out first. lol Quote
98_banshee_newbie Posted March 6, 2008 Author Report Posted March 6, 2008 Ok ijust pulled the jugs off and come the find out the piston itself basically exploded the only part left is the top of the piston the actuall top only the sides and all are are everywhere. Now to the next question how do i clean that stuff out its all down in my crank(probly its all broken up above it ) Is there a way to flush it out and how would i know if my crank is good or bad. i picked a couple pieces out and then the kick start would rotate then til' another piece jams the crank up. 350BANSHEE350 Posted March 6, 2008 Report Posted March 6, 2008 whao hooo! time to split the cases Quote
yamaha04 Posted March 6, 2008 Report Posted March 6, 2008 yup i would get a clymers manual and split the cases. you probably want to puy a new crank aswell. probably not worth putting money in the old one getting it checked out Quote
Screaming Yellow Zonker Posted March 6, 2008 Report Posted March 6, 2008 Bandaids don't last. You have to split the case to make sure all the shavings are out. Splitting the case is not hard but most are afraid because it sounds hard. Take your time. Good luck Quote
ClimbAnyHill Posted March 6, 2008 Report Posted March 6, 2008 Buy that Clymer Manual, you would of had all these questions answered. Coolant travels from head to cylinder water jackets. Break head gasket seal and you have a leak. Sounds like a piston might of gone lean on ya. You will have to split the cases, you can't drain the crankcase area. I'd check the bearings an measure play on that crank, the manual gives you the measurements too. It would't cost much to ship to a builder for inspection, if it's good then have them weld it. Quote
