kashbanshee Posted February 29, 2008 Report Posted February 29, 2008 i just wanted to ask how long riders here let their bike idle after starting it for the first time in a day. After idle do you ride slow or just go straight to WOT. Lastly, when you leave your bike of for about 4 hours in warm weather, when you get back to it to you warm it up again or just get a move. All this happens in the same day. Thanx for the appreciated answers and looking at this post. Quote
DallasGDub Posted February 29, 2008 Report Posted February 29, 2008 I start it and hold my hand on the pipe, when it feels warm I then ride around at low rpms for a few min. After that I am wide open. I do that if it has been sitting for a few hours, or a week. I am never in that big of a hurry, so I play it safe. Quote
Skidmark Posted March 3, 2008 Report Posted March 3, 2008 I just ride it easy till the pipes are too hot to touch, also if it breaks up when your WOT then its not probably warm enough yet. Quote
sled Posted March 3, 2008 Report Posted March 3, 2008 i wait until the cylinders are warm to touch. Quote
Dinner Posted March 3, 2008 Report Posted March 3, 2008 I usually start it and let it idle for a bit while giving it gas every now and then just to help warm it up. Once it has sat there for a bit I ride it around easy. It's pretty easy to tell when the engine isn't warmed up because the bike runs like crap (well mine does anyway). It breaks away on top and just doesn't have any pull. So once I'm done riding it around easy and I can haul on e' and shee doesn't break up, that's when I know she is warm. Quote
gumby6t9 Posted March 3, 2008 Report Posted March 3, 2008 I wait until the top of the radiator is warm to the touch. Quote
Coupelx Posted March 3, 2008 Report Posted March 3, 2008 i usually unload my quads first and start it and let it run while i get my gear and stuff on or unloaded. our entrance trail is about a quarter mile long and by the time i hit the sand she is ready and i let it rip. Quote
Bansh-eman Posted March 3, 2008 Report Posted March 3, 2008 same as above... let it warm up while im getting my gear on. The jugs should be nice and warm before you move. I ride smooth out of camp, once I'm out im all over it Quote
jamebo Posted March 3, 2008 Report Posted March 3, 2008 I let mine idle for three to four minutes, then take off and ride easy until the rpm's rise smooth and crisp. Now keep in mind that's in Fla., Usually in 65 - 100 degree weather, so it may be done differently in colder temps. Quote
