nitroburner13 Posted February 3, 2008 Report Posted February 3, 2008 i recently decided not to run the override i bought and i threw my stock tranny in. one thing i would like though is a modded shift star so i can still shift pretty quick up the hill. is there any major downsides to a modded star? and are they worth putin on over stock? also it seems like it would be easy to do at home with a dremel and a good bit. can it be done? foxracing350 Posted February 3, 2008 Report Posted February 3, 2008 just buy one from cascade for 32 bucks http://webforce.nwrain.net/founder/cascade...ore_dept_id=165 Quote
00tbanshee Posted February 3, 2008 Report Posted February 3, 2008 yes you can do it with a grinder are a carbide bit.just can't do the back cut for neutral. Quote
BigRed350x Posted February 3, 2008 Report Posted February 3, 2008 Dont try it with a dremel you will be there all day. Use a grinding wheel or grinder of some sort. Its easy to do at home. Quote
Fireroad Express Posted February 3, 2008 Report Posted February 3, 2008 a bench grinder is the ultimate tool for shaping the shift star but you can probably do it with a dremel.just be prepared to go through a few bits and spend quite a while doing it. Quote
sinisterboo Posted February 3, 2008 Report Posted February 3, 2008 Just did mine lastnite on a bench grinder. Just be careful, they get HOT! lol. anyways, afterwards i finished smoothing it out with a 3m roloc wheel on my die grinder. Seems to work on the bench just fine. When i get my frame back and all together we'll see how it works. Quote
sheerider1026 Posted February 3, 2008 Report Posted February 3, 2008 yea i have done about a dozen of them, its easy to do, just takes about 5 to 10 minutes, it will work fine, i also take the spring that goes on the little lever with the wheel and grind some off of the outside radius to weaken it a little, dont go overboard on it, i take about 30-40% off. seems to work great. i have a modded strar and a shift pro kit in my other bike(cub) works like a charm. hotrodbanshee Posted February 4, 2008 Report Posted February 4, 2008 Does anyone have pics on where to grind and how much to grind off? Maybe a before and after pic? I have the equipment to do the job but don't want to screw up the star. Quote
sinisterboo Posted February 4, 2008 Report Posted February 4, 2008 click on that cascade link a few replies back. it shows a stock one right next to a modded one. really good pic for you to go by! Quote
hotrodbanshee Posted February 11, 2008 Report Posted February 11, 2008 I already have a shift pro installed on my shee from a few years ago. Think I am going to go ahead and mod my shift star to make shift even smoother. Is everyone happy with there modded star along with the shift pro kit? Quote
sheerider1026 Posted February 12, 2008 Report Posted February 12, 2008 Just modded mine did u cut it yourself?? looks great!! i cut my own also, i have the shift pro and the cut star, i love it, shifts great. Quote
hotrodbanshee Posted February 12, 2008 Report Posted February 12, 2008 Ya did it myself on a small belt/disk grinder. Took about 5 minutes. VERY EASY............... Quote
