Banshee0028 Posted November 12, 2007 Report Posted November 12, 2007 I have a billet water impeller and it seems to be rubbing on the far inside of the clutch cover when i try to spin it unless I put pressure to push it out some. Not sure if this is normal or not. Maybe when the engine is running, its "properly" aligned and not an issue? Quote
Screaming Yellow Zonker Posted November 12, 2007 Report Posted November 12, 2007 I had to put a thin stainless washer behind mine because it gouged the case. Quote
CombatTalon2 Posted November 12, 2007 Report Posted November 12, 2007 Was noticing that today while i was putting my engine back together. Looks like the impeller rubs a bit on the inside of the pump cavity. I will try the washer and see how that works out! Quote
moneybags Posted November 12, 2007 Report Posted November 12, 2007 I have one that does the same thing. let me guess, it's a modquad impeller. Quote
ClimbAnyHill Posted November 12, 2007 Report Posted November 12, 2007 Yeah, what impellers are you guys running? Quote
Screaming Yellow Zonker Posted November 12, 2007 Report Posted November 12, 2007 I have a pro design. Quote
Banshee0028 Posted November 13, 2007 Author Report Posted November 13, 2007 Yep pro design for me too. I was thinking of using some kind of washer but not sure how that would help as there is nothing to hold it in place, or it might catch on the impeller fins? Quote
CombatTalon2 Posted November 13, 2007 Report Posted November 13, 2007 As i was looking at my clutch case today I noticed that there is a hole in the cases to hold the end of the impeller. Putting a washer in there behind the impeller would space it out, and you would avoid having the washer on the impeller side? Quote
ClimbAnyHill Posted November 13, 2007 Report Posted November 13, 2007 I had to put a thin stainless washer behind mine because it gouged the case. How bad was the gouging? Some say rubbing. I have one on the way, would it be a wise shave down the surface to prevent this? Quote

I dont think its really bad, but it looks like it has been rubbing the inside of the clutch cover for a while. I thought about sanding down that area, but unless we put something on the inside like a washer to hold it in place it might still rub even after sanding it? Quote
doorslammer Posted November 13, 2007 Report Posted November 13, 2007 i have a pro design and havent had any rubbing confusing Quote

ClimbAnyHill Posted November 13, 2007 Report Posted November 13, 2007 It wasn't too bad but bad enough where I had to sand it down. And all is good now? Quote
HotCarl Posted November 13, 2007 Report Posted November 13, 2007 I had 2 motors apart at the same time last week one with a modquad impeller and the other with a prodesign. If I switched them from one case to the other they would rub, but if I left them in the cases they were in they didn't rub. So basically I think it is a crap shoot, and neither rub enough for me to worry out it. There is a small amount of free play in the shaft if the seal and bear are installed correctly. make sure your the washer on the gear side isn't too big where it might pull the impeller into the case. that's my $.02 Quote
