Its hard to believe your bike gets cooled down at all with green shit in it!

Cant be any worse than having orange or pink shit in there.

I'd suggest going to a doctor on that one. :geek:

I usually use coolanol in the banshee. I dont use automotive coolant, its hard on the rubber stuff in the cooling system.

Even though I have Engine Ice in my ZX10r and Banshee, I run good ol' Prestone (the green stuff) in my truck. My '89 Toyota still has the stock radiator, hoses, and water pump.

Dude...1989....and still going strong!!

I thought the newer Red whiz bang antifreeze was a 100,000 mile coolant.....

And to answer the original post:

The primary reason for running distilled water is to use a medium that has minimal minerals in it....unlike regular tap water. Minerals will clog your radiator cooling tubes and coat the inside, resulting in crappy heat transfer.

Some bottle water companies actually ADD minerals for an improved taste. If you have no choice, filtered water is better than tap, unless the water where you live is extremely "soft." You can usually buy a bottle of Distilled water in the same isle where the bottled spring water is found.

Our water in San Diego is so hard, soap doesn't sud and if you don't dry your car...it can etch the glass/paint!!

The red stuff may be better long term, but it probably doesn't really matter in your 'shee. The most important thing is NO MINERALS!!!

How many people that posted here and told me basically I was wrong about green coolant actually are master Ase certified technicians? How many went to an automotive trade school and earned an accredited associates degree in auto technology? How many have gone through Audi Step program technical training? How many have been through GM factory training? How many are Audi Factory certified? How many are GM certified? How many take a GM factory training course every month for 4 hours? How many worked in an Automotive repair facility on heavy line every working day of their lives for the last 8 years?

Not to throw all this out there just to say what I say is right! Along the way doing all this stuff, I managed to remember and pick up a few things from my work and training. Not to mention when you know someone like Dyno Dave Roberts, and you ask him for some coolant at the dunes. He will tell you he has some, but you cant mix it with regular antifreeze because he is running low silicate ethylene glycol. Then you get to asking what the big deal with that is. Basically you get the whole story that has unfolded in this thread as a dialogue between a punk kid who thinks he knows it all, and a Boeing engineer who worked on the stealth project and is one of the smartest 2 stroke builders I have ever known. So, as I said, run the antifreeze if you want, but I conveyed my opinions on what I run, and why I do. End of discussion.

I dont think anyone came out and said, "hey motherfucker, you're wrong about that antifreeze shit."

As far as being ASE certified, what does that really have to do with knowing anything about working

on cars? I think it gives you a reason to wear a nifty patch on your shirt and a plaque to put on the

wall. I've had some ASE certified mechanics fuck up a few of my vehicles. So, I dont have much

faith in the mechanics that work directly for auto manufacturers.

So with that being said.....dont mix the green shit with the red shit unless is says you

can do so on the bottle. Other wise you'll get some messy goopy shit that will clog your

shit up.

Being ASE certified and Master ASE certified are two entirely different things. The L1 test is a hard ass test. I'm not just ASE certified though. The point is, I have learned about all this shit, and I know answers to things like why gm came out with dex cool, because I work for gm, and go to gm training school.

i dont really feel like reading the pissing match so im going to assume what was said and type my info. if its not pertanent to the topic disregaurd :)

anti freeze is NOT a coolant! it is ment to keep vehicles fluid from freezing in cold temps. the cooling properties are there becasue of the water that is inhernt in it but the idea of anti freeze is not intended as a "cooling agent"

it is a fact that anti freeze is hard on rubber seals. water wetter and engine ice have a lubricant (cant remember the scientific name) that will prevent the rubber from drying out and cracking. your best bet for cool temp areas is to run engin ice, it has cooling property agaents AND is good for temps as low as -26 f .

if you dont live in cold areas distilled water and Redline water wetter is the way to go. cheap and works great!

i am. im also Acdelco certified! My Dad has had a 10 bay shop for the past 30 years and ive worked here for the last 7 years. i went threw all the schools expect audi which i could care less. a car is a car when it comes down to it. im telling you i wouldnt put that red shit in anything. i only run the green stuff in my vehicles. have you ever pulled the intake or heads off an engine running the red stuff with over 100k on it? the coolant jackets are all full of shit. My buddy builds race engines for a living and says the same thing. any of those long term coolants or oils are all BS. change your oil every 3k and your coolant every 36k. my Dads car has over 250k. we've never even had a valve cover off. you'll never see a car running the red shit get that high in mileage.

I respect your opinion and experience. I have no experience with the new gen anti-freezes. I just wanted to point out that my 18 year old truck has a clean cooling system, original hoses, and original water pump. That being said, I think I'll change my hoses soon...maybe '09!! :yelrotflmao:

Toyota makes a helluva truck......

Banshee-man hit the main point on the head of why gm switched to dexcool. The lubricative properties of antifreeze to dexcool are quite adverse. Gm did to save money on failing cooling system components that were failing ultimately due to lack of lubrication.
