Alright guys so I found out yesterday finally that I need a top end rebuild. But now I'm wondering what I should do....should I just get new rings and shit or should I bore it out and how much should I bore it out? Is there anything that tells you how much speed you increase with bores?

you dont really gain that much hp by boaring your cylinders to the max,you just loose all your chances you could rebuild the top end.The best thing to do is boar it out the least amount you can,hoan it,and slap new pistons in.

You want to bore it out the least amount as possible. Once a reputable machinist takes some measurements of where your cylinders are and compares that to the stock measurements, that is where you will find out how big you have to go. You might be able to get away with just honing them out which might only call for new rings. Find out your measurements first and go from there.

 

This is a two stroke, not a four. Boring out your cylinders is not necessarily a good thing, just means you'll have to replace or sleeve your cylinders sooner.

You only need to bore if you cylinder wall is all scratched up and won't clean up with a hone. If you need to bore, only go as deep as is needed to remove imperfections in the sleeves. Don't waste all your potential bores to increase power, because it would be a minimal increase at best. Like wrecker03 said, your just going to have to replace cylinders or sleeves sooner if you bore them out to the maximum. The last topend I did on mine just required a hone and new pistons (got rid of the stockers) and its been running great with good compression ever since. I probably have 40+hours on it already and its not losing compression or power.

if your cylinders are in good shape do you still have to hone them?

I thought if they still have the crosshatching on them you dont have to do anything to them, just put new pistons and rings :shrug:
