stealth50 Posted May 2, 2007 Report Posted May 2, 2007 I changed my oil and it is very dirty and has what appears to be metal in it. The new oil looked the same as the old after 1 ride! I tore the motor down and it looks fine. My clutch looks great also. What could it be? Could it still be the clutch slipping even if it looks good and I can't feel it slip? Thanks for any help. Quote

BlazinOne Posted May 2, 2007 Report Posted May 2, 2007 Check the bearing behind the clutch basket(clutch shaft). These bearing have alot of load on them. You can tell when they are going bad by the growling sound comoing from the clutch cover when the clutch is engaged. If the sound goes away when you pull the clutch lever in ,the bearing is shot.It took me a year of troubleshooting before I figured it out on mine. Also the oil drainback is very slow on banshee engines.Probably due to the long drain bolt blocking the oil flow.make sure when you change your oil that your putting the right amount in.It might look like its full but its probably not. BenBB Posted May 2, 2007 Report Posted May 2, 2007 Sounds normal to me; there's no oil filter and clutch plates do wear...unless there's huge hunks of metal or weird noises like BlazinOne said, I wouldn't be too concerned. I have a magnetic drain plug from Napa or somewhere and there's always fine shavings on it and the oil is slightly discolored (80W90), but I figure it's doing it's job, as long as you change it regularly you oughta be fine. That sounds about right. I think I should have been a bit more clear in my previous poost in this thread by stating that the oil condition that is being talked about most likely comes from your clutch. Quote
Justintoxicated Posted May 2, 2007 Report Posted May 2, 2007 (edited) Try some Bel-Ray 85 weight it may make your clutch wear alot slower, Also pickup a magnetic drain plug, it will collect shavings and open up the oil passageway into the case. I only change my oil once or twice a season and it is never metal colored. Edited May 2, 2007 by Justintoxicated Quote
jlsparky7 Posted May 2, 2007 Report Posted May 2, 2007 Any chance your breather hose came off? If its like a milky grey thats prolly what happend. The crank breather hose is on the very back of the motor on the top incase you didnt know. If your quad sucks in water the oil will look like what you discribed. Quote
