350BANSHEE350 Posted April 18, 2007 Report Posted April 18, 2007 (edited) is engine ice bad in ANYWAY? i ride trails and i havnt done an actual ride yet but i usually have to wait for all the 4 pokes so i am pretty sure it well overheat with normal fluid in it, BUT i well pobably buy it so well it be bad if i buy it and it runs too cool? would 50*f make you lose power if its not overheatable with normal fluid? does engine ice gum up? when i buy it do i just put it in the way it is? thanks guys Edited April 18, 2007 by 350BANSHEE350 Quote
yamaha04 Posted April 18, 2007 Report Posted April 18, 2007 yeah works good i think i have overheated yet but i have pretty much always used it. if you are overheating alot in normal temps them i would think there is other issue that should be figured out like maybe impeller problems or red blockage. i use it and havent overheated yet and it is supose to work and i dont think you will lose any power cant really see why you would. and yes you just drain all the old stuff out and dump the new stuff in. my bike ussualy uses almost a fukk container theres about 1" or 2 left in the jug when im full. Screaming Yellow Zonker Posted April 18, 2007 Report Posted April 18, 2007 As long as you follow the directions you will have no problems. I prefer to run water wetter and water in hot weather. Quote

The only bad thing about it is it might kill you if you drink it. Quote

I used to use Water Wetter. :geek: Quote
crazyrotts Posted April 18, 2007 Report Posted April 18, 2007 I use engine ice and I can't complain. I also have a pro design impeller and if all else fails you can install a temp. gauge then you can keep an eye on it. Quote

I might be wrong to to my best knowledge engine ice is nothing more than propylene glycol premixed with deionized water. Basically they put it in a fancy package and put a cool name like "Engine Ice" on it to charge extra, and claim a big teperature drop. Propylene Glycol is nothing more than non toxic antifreeze you can buy at Wal Mart, and yes it does help to reduce engine temps. slightly. It would be kind of like getting a generic prescription over the name brand. Anything you use for the 'shee needs to be compatible with the aluminum so it doesn't corrode and depending on where you live and when you ride you might want the freeze protection. The upside with the Propylene Glycol is that it is environmentally friendly. I have a buddy that bought his 'shee in '87 brand new out of the show room in '86, yes he still has it. He has run only regular antifreeze from the autoparts store ever since the first time he flushed and filled the system and has never had any cooling system related problems. His advise to me was to always read through the marketing gimmicks to save yourself some dough and put the money where it counts. The only way to stay cool is by moving because obviously there is no fan. If you have to stop and wait shut 'er down and wait. Just my $.02 Quote

Just my $.02 I think you are mostly correct about the propylene glycol and ethylene glycol thing. Engine Ice has one other additive package in it that actually makes it work (just like Water Wetter except Water Wetter is not an anti-freeze). Engine Ice contains a surfactant that acts to remover air bubbles from the engines interanal cooling surfaces and to degas the coolant. That is where you get the increased cooling efficiency. :geek: Quote
dante Posted April 18, 2007 Report Posted April 18, 2007 Just do like me a add a raptor fan to the light switch so you can turn it on and off. MMM 2 easy. Quote
350BANSHEE350 Posted April 19, 2007 Author Report Posted April 19, 2007 well i think i well just buy it because i dont go that fast in the trails (we do take beer breaks every 30-45min) and i have to wait for 4 stroke 4x4s so anything counts i know this is a stupid question but bare with me lol how do i tell if my bike is overheating or close too? i have never had a bike overheat before because it was a polaris trailblazer lol and i get worried just because it gets hot after 5 min but i kow thats from the pipes thanks guys Quote
