Washburn Posted February 1, 2007 Report Posted February 1, 2007 Ide get a Noss head w 21cc domes and a ricky stator timing plate and set it at +4 if you want to run pump gas (Depending on elevation). that will give you alot more lowend and more power throughout the powerband. Then save up another hundred or so and buy the V3s. Or if your looking for the best powergain for you money get your head milled and get it ported. What kind of pipes do you have? What style of riding do you do? Where are you located and what elevation do you ride at? Quote
Animalman294 Posted February 1, 2007 Report Posted February 1, 2007 Call a reputable builder and get a port job done, I recommend Jeff at FAST, great guy to work with............. Quote
bada450r Posted February 1, 2007 Report Posted February 1, 2007 Call a reputable builder and get a port job done, I recommend Jeff at FAST, great guy to work with............. ported, and shave the head, and you might even have some money left for a timing key,i have never used one of those keys, but when in a budget, its all fair game, that right there should put a smile on your face whan you hit the power band......... Quote
firefighterjosh Posted February 1, 2007 Report Posted February 1, 2007 I would recomend a timing plate from ricky statir, delta v-force 2s or 3s ( i like 2s). Then I would save up for a 12 port big bore from Jeff @ Fast  Quote
blueboy22 Posted February 1, 2007 Author Report Posted February 1, 2007 thanks for the help and ideas guys! i have t-5's right now mainly ride open fields but have a lil of everything on like 120 acres and its over around dilsboro indiana so i'm guessin like 7** ft above sea level? might be or not right on that also i still want to ride with pump gas (93) so would porting make me run race or anything? dajogejr Posted February 1, 2007 Report Posted February 1, 2007 I honestly don't think you can get a reputable port job for 400 bucks. Sure, the porting is gonna be 350 bucks or so...but what about a fresh top end, bore job, hone? Pistons, rings, gaskets, seals...fluids. they all add up. If you had...say, 600...yeah, it's feasible....but, you'd be cutting yourself short at 400. So...I'd get the head shaved .025, get an adjustable timing plate and shave your flywheel. That should cost you about 150 or less. Save the rest for a rainy day for a port job and fresh top end. Quote
blueboy22 Posted February 1, 2007 Author Report Posted February 1, 2007 idk if you have to get a new topend when you port or anything but would i? the topend has about 5-6 hours on it. so idk if that helps what kinda power difference would i be making with a cheaper porting job? Quote
theshee Posted February 1, 2007 Report Posted February 1, 2007 I would get a coolhead to start, and get porting when you have the money to do it right. Thats something you will regret if its not done 100% right the first time. Check your PMs I sent you some stuff. Quote
bigboybanshee Posted February 1, 2007 Report Posted February 1, 2007 I would scratch the port idea, cause after it's ported, you should run either an aftermarket crank or get your stocker trued and welded, then you'll want bigger carbs because the stockers just won't do a port job justice, then you'll want the head to bump up compression...etc, etc. You just don't port a set of cylinders and leave everything else stock, I highly recommend getting a head, lightened flywheel, and advance your timing with an adjustable plate. Best bang for the money you have to spend  Quote
blueboy22 Posted February 1, 2007 Author Report Posted February 1, 2007 alright thanks! what size domes could i go with but still run like 91-93 octane? Quote

bigboybanshee Posted February 1, 2007 Report Posted February 1, 2007 alright thanks! what size domes could i go with but still run like 91-93 octane? It depends on your elevation. Where do you live? Quote
dajogejr Posted February 1, 2007 Report Posted February 1, 2007 went ahead and pm'd magicmike we'll see what happends thanks for everyones help and theshee for again helping me out Mike is a great guy to deal with...you'll be satisfied with him no doubt.... Most builders prefer to port a cast iron sleeve cylinder, then bore, just in case they "Oops". Hey...happens to anyone. That way a fresh bore and hone will really tighten it up. I'm a firm believer if you're gonna get a port job, get the top end freshened up too...unless you pull apart a brand spanking new motor. Quote
