Cyan Posted November 26, 2006 Report Posted November 26, 2006 Hey guys First post here and ironicly it's about a blown motor . Not a happy day for what was suposed to be the last ride of the season. Anyways i've never rebuilt a banshee motor before ( i am a lincesed mechanic ), but i have rebuilt all kinds of Gm's lol. So here is my question, i pulled off the head(stock) and heres what i see little chunks of soft metal in the tops of the right piston (rings?). the head is also bashed in a little from these peices. I guess what i'm asking is whats the safest bet to go about rebuilding, as in new pistons, rings, head?, Cyls?, ect.. thanks for any advice Sean Quote
FasterThanU90 Posted November 26, 2006 Report Posted November 26, 2006 Wiseco and OEM parts would be most reliable Quote
BANSHEEMANIAC Posted November 27, 2006 Report Posted November 27, 2006 i would try to stay away from oem pistons. they are cast and do not hold up very well under most conditions 2 strokes indure. wiseco is a good piston. Quote
FasterThanU90 Posted November 27, 2006 Report Posted November 27, 2006 thats what i was refurring to as a top end kit Quote
banshee freak Posted November 27, 2006 Report Posted November 27, 2006 Check your cylinders to see how bad the grooves from the rings is and get it bored out, the nearest machine shop willt ell u how bad it is but usualy your safe to just bore 0.010 . I bought soem WSM pistons on ebay for 120$ which came witht he whole kit, rings circlips,pistons,gaskets,pins,bearings.......its pretty simple to throw together. Quote
flyingkermit Posted November 27, 2006 Report Posted November 27, 2006 Sorry to hear about your motor :: I know what your going through, This is what happened to mine last sat. Quote
Cyan Posted November 27, 2006 Author Report Posted November 27, 2006 thanks for all the replys!! Sorry to see we share the pain kermit. I think i'm gonna go wiesco, thats what i run in my street car. and most likely oem top end gaskets ect. or do you think i should go aftermarket for head?, i'll post pics tomorrow of the dmg to the pistons and head. another Q i had is i heard you can tell how the bike was running from the look of the top of the piston, if true whats it mean when the whole top of the piston is Black/sooty, rich? thanks again Sean Quote
