tmac20031 Posted November 11, 2006 Report Posted November 11, 2006 Can an octane booster be used instead of buying race fuel in order to advance timeing? If so whats a good product to use? Quote
Aaron.D Posted November 11, 2006 Report Posted November 11, 2006 Octane Booster's Are Crap, There bad for the motor, Can cause excessive heat and rapid parts break down. Even more important in 2-stroke motors because some types even thin engine oil. So do yourself a favor. Stay away from them. If you want a timing advance then do it right. spend some beans and get a Dyna FS CDI box. Well, worth the hard earned cash. Even with a higher octane fuel you would really still want one anyway. It really is a must for any mod's directly effecting fuel to air ratio's :: Quote
dajogejr Posted November 11, 2006 Report Posted November 11, 2006 Tmac... If you don't raise the compression and go +4 on the timing, you'll be fine on premium pump fuel. A timing plate is 35 bucks. A Dyna ignition is close to 300. I have a Dyna, and I have a Nology...but, there's a lot of parts you can buy before you spend the money on a Dyna that will net more gain. Save your money, get a timing plate....and run premium fuel. Steer clear of octane boosters....they're more trouble than what they're worth... Quote
Satsol67 Posted November 11, 2006 Report Posted November 11, 2006 (edited) If I were you I wouldnt use it. I did itand i blew up my topend. It also makes everything sticky. Do yourself a favor and stay away from it. I wish I would of asked before trying it. Edited November 11, 2006 by Satsol67 Quote
jbooker82 Posted November 11, 2006 Report Posted November 11, 2006 If you read on your octane booster bottle it will claim boosting xnumber of points. That is not the number that you would see on the gas pump. It takes so many points before the octane rating goes up one whole number. It is a lot cheaper to buy race fuel and mix it instead of using an octane booster. But like dajogejr you really dont need it if your just advanceing the timing +4 deg. I run my banshee on premimum fuel with the mods in my sig. josh Quote

Thanks man, I have heard this many times and thats what Im going to do, your comments have finally convinced me. I really do just want to stay with pump gas cause I like a ridable bike that I dont have to shell out tons of cash just to ride it. I just like to make sure that other people go +4 without a problem and it does seem like its a smart move, so thanks again Quote
dajogejr Posted November 13, 2006 Report Posted November 13, 2006 Last year I ran on my bone stock motor, T5s, pod filters, lightened flywheel and +4 on a plate...100% stock ignition... 92 to 94 octane no issues whatsoever, but...I will say I'm certain mine was jetted spot on, too...I try to leave mine a hair on the side or rich rather than lean... Animalman294 Posted November 13, 2006 Report Posted November 13, 2006 Its safer to go a little rich than a little lean.......... Quote
