brian Posted November 9, 2006 Report Posted November 9, 2006 I have a 2003 Polaris Predator 90cc. I bought it for my daughter. Has run really good for about a year now. We have not ridden for a few months, last weekend we rode, and had problems with it. It will start and idle fine. When trying to take off, it wants to die. You can choke 1/2 to 3/4 and it will take off strong. When returns to idle it dies if you dont turn choke off. I removed and cleaned carb, but it didn't help at all. It seems like it is very lean at WOT, but I never changed anything. Anybody have any insight that might save me a little time? Maybe a common problem for these bikes? Thanks Quote
okbeast Posted November 9, 2006 Report Posted November 9, 2006 Not sure how complex these things are but could it be some kind of air leak? I.E. an intake boot or maybe a head gasket leak? Quote

Thanks When its' running, does it speed up or slow down if you spray starting fluid around the intake manifold area? This will help determine if there is a vacuum leak. When you cleaned the carb, did you verify that the low speed jet circuit passes carb cleaner thru all the tiny holes? Edited November 11, 2006 by David Keith Quote
Bandit Posted November 11, 2006 Report Posted November 11, 2006 My guess its sucking air...Do you know if the 90 predator a-arms bolt to 90 scrambler? Quote
Aaron.D Posted November 11, 2006 Report Posted November 11, 2006 Because it runs with the choke on that really eliminates the air leak theory unless its in the choke boot. Not sure of the set up on a Polaris. But Sometime sitting can cause deterioration on junk needle valves or can clog jets I know you said you took it apart. so if all looks good, Then we look deeper. The last time you road what temp was it outside. And is that any different then the temp outside now. When it sat to you use a fuel stabilizer I.E.: Sta-bill. Let me know. :ninja: Quote
dajogejr Posted November 12, 2006 Report Posted November 12, 2006 Hey Brian... Make sure you've covered the basics. Clean air filter, properly oiled and sealed? New plug? Next, check the wiring for a burnt spot, knicked spot, etc....check kill switches too. When I clean carbs, especially after sitting, I remove all jets, etc. I take a few strands of speaker wire....and clean the bejesus out of 'em. If the basics are good, no bad wires, time to check for an air leak using a leak down tester. Yes, even if it runs better with choke....it can still be a an air leak... Quote

dajogejr Posted November 12, 2006 Report Posted November 12, 2006 One other thing, Brian... I'm not familiar with their Predator 90, so...forgive the stupid question. Is it two stroke or four? I'm assuming 2 stroke. Does it have oil injection? Possible leak/problem/plug in the oil injection system? Just throwing that out there.... Quote
