ZillaRider02 Posted October 23, 2006 Report Posted October 23, 2006 Defiantely start with bumping up the compression (Shave the stock head or buy an Aftermarket Head). A good set of reeds are money well spent (V-Force are the most popular). The biggest bang for the buck will be port work for sure. Jeff at F.A.S.T. does excellent work for a reasonable price. Advance the timing +4 degrees, install clamp-on air filters, remove your TORS system, Upgrade the clutch, Stroker crank, the list goes on......Welcome to the Addiction! Quote
locogato11283 Posted October 23, 2006 Report Posted October 23, 2006 porting will def be the best bang for your buck. there are some awesome woods and dune ports out there for around 300. only problem is that your t6's may not let you get the full potential out of the porting but you will def notice a difference. an aftermarket head and some v force reeds will compliment porting nicely and itll be a whole different bike. i say go for this. porting--$300 or so reeds--$225 head--$230 i think Quote

dajogejr Posted October 23, 2006 Report Posted October 23, 2006 Porting is the best bang for your buck...however, how fresh is the top end? I personally would wait until it is time for a fresh top end before I ported, that way you can get the bore, top end and port work done all at once. Just my .02. However, I agree with the group. More compression and timing are very, very cheap mods....next. Some 28 to 33 mm carbs down the road, to compliment the port job too... But, Loco hit the nail on the head. T6s aren't very friendly for some more aggressive porting, so...keep that in mind. Will they work? Sure they will...but, we all want the best bang for the buck....and that isn't it.... Yeah, welcome to the sickness.... Quote

Yeah, welcome to the sickness.... will it be bad to do the timing without porting and polishing the head or doing any engine work. because this bike is like new maybe 6 rides on the engine so i think i will wait till it needs a top end . do you think that if i do the new reeds and the timing it will wake the engine up a little? dajogejr Posted October 23, 2006 Report Posted October 23, 2006 6 hours on it? Hell yes...wait and get your money out of that virgin top end... Timing is a great mod on a bone stock or highly modded engine. You'll love it, it'll wake up the bottom end a bit. Reeds will help a little, but....you will notice more punch and response from a ported motor. I'd save your money, get a 35 dollar timing plate, a cool head with 21cc domes (what elevation are you at, anyways?)...and ride it. I would definately wait though....no need to go tearing into a brand new engine... Maybe shave the flywheel too...another 40 to 65 bucks or so. Quote

dajogejr Posted October 23, 2006 Report Posted October 23, 2006 Not if you have the right tool. You remove the flywheel with a special tool, 10 to 15 bucks, which threads onto the inside of the flywheel. Do NOT use a jaw type puller, you risk wasting the flywheel. From there, it's a few screws to put the stator on the new plate, three 10mm bolts to hold the plate down, a few small phillips screws to hold the wires and the pickup down. Yeah, it's easy....no sweat!! Quote
