blak banshee Posted October 16, 2006 Report Posted October 16, 2006 Guy at my job saw me with my banshee and all he talks about now is this quadzilla he had when he was younger. I looked it up and it seems like its gotta be a monster 500cc 2 stroke. Anyone ride one, have one, or know any info why they were discontinued? I googled it and all that seems to come up are classifieds. Quote
Rebel3190 Posted October 16, 2006 Report Posted October 16, 2006 yea, they were definately beasts only other bike IMO that is competition with the banshee,i heard they were discontinued cause to many people got hurt. Quote
gipperz Posted October 16, 2006 Report Posted October 16, 2006 I have one that I got in a trade. They make aroung 50 hp stock. There a 500cc 2 stroke power valve single. There more torquey and don't rev out like the shee, there real smooth, no hard hit like the shee. Iv'e been told they have there problems, mine needs a rebuild and I thought about letting my kid ride it this up and comming summer. Dirt wheels did a shoot out years ago and claimed it was faster then the shee in a drag race, stock to stock. Sounds like they might be a money pit, maybe someone else will chime in and shed some light. Quote
EastCoast Banshee Posted October 16, 2006 Report Posted October 16, 2006 My dad raced a zilla back in the days. He said they were like 60hp from factory dont know if this was true or not. He also talked about how much torq it had said it was like a 4 strok you could lug gears and pull through with no problem. Im pretty sure he mentioned after all the work he did to the motor it was in the 90hp range. Quote
thegroup Posted October 16, 2006 Report Posted October 16, 2006 a guy my dad works with has one and he says its the torquest damn thing he has ever been on. stock for stock, it will out run a banshee. one of my buddy's step dad also had one built WAY up in the motor and it was clock at 110 in sand drag. it was a bad mother fucker Quote
djackbanshee Posted October 16, 2006 Report Posted October 16, 2006 Those bikes had lot's of torque, didn't rev that much. They were Faster than a banshee in the stock form, but a medium built banshee would outrun them and a banshee can be modified alot more than the quadzilla. They are big and heavy bikes. There excellent for Hill climbing . Not the most reliable bike also and aftermarket parts are getting harder to find these days. Quote
BigRed350x Posted October 16, 2006 Report Posted October 16, 2006 I wouldn't mind having one just to tinker with in my free time. LOL would be fun. Quote
metricmaster Posted October 16, 2006 Report Posted October 16, 2006 (edited) I wouldn't mind having one just to tinker with in my free time. LOL would be fun. one for sale in coffeyville kansas , if interested let me know and i will get the guys number for you. Back in the day they were awsome but so was the honda 250r. I think the banshee stomps both of them today and some day something will stomp the banshee but for now banshee is king in my book. Edited October 16, 2006 by metricmaster Quote
differentstrokes Posted October 16, 2006 Report Posted October 16, 2006 I've been around 2 different ones, seen several others too. Not nearly as reliable as a banshee or 250r. A guy I work with had an 88 and said he traded his banshee for it, both were stock but he claims the banshee wouldn't touch the zilla. Very big and bulky also. Fenders are huge, both front and rear. Has a very deep sound and doesn't whine like the banshee, I guess since it doesn't rev out like the shee. I know 87 was the first year, I think 90 or 91 was the last...I know the earlier ones were powervalved, but I want to say the last year or two weren't or were slower for some reason. I know most people want the 87-88's and I think it's for that reason, but I may be wrong. A guy I know has an 87 sitting in a shop up the road and I thought about buying it and going through it but it doesn't run, the frame is bent near the front bumper and the case it cracked where the rear mount bolt goes through. I know where another sits that is mint but needs a rebuild (doesn't have any compression when you kick it over and the guy wants $3,000). I'd like to have one to mess with anyway, faster or slower than the banshee it's a piece of quad history. Quote
sand4ever Posted October 16, 2006 Report Posted October 16, 2006 I had an 87 and it was torque monster, however all my friends had banshee . They all made fun of the bike, but I liked it anyways. The 500 was a big bike and would get hot after a few hill runs. I didn't like that about the bike. Mine just had a trail/ dune por jobwith boysen reeds and a fmf pipe. Which sounded awesome, when I would ride through hors fall everybody would stare. I eventually sold the bike for a banshee, probably sold it too cheap. But for a dirt bike it did haul ass. Too bad they didn't have a sixth gear :: Quote
blak banshee Posted October 16, 2006 Author Report Posted October 16, 2006 thanks for the input guys. Looks as if the handlebars sit in the center of the quad, maybe causes the rider to sit too far back and fall over backwards from torque. I was talking with the guy, Tony, at work again and he said you had to put your balls on the gas tank to keep the wheels on the ground on hard acceleration. Quote
Toybreaker Posted October 16, 2006 Report Posted October 16, 2006 The 87 was a one year only for the intake setup. Check the reeds and it will go 87, 88-90(or whenever they were discontinued.) It was bigger than the rest of the years. They used the same intakes on the 87lt 250's too. I want a 500 engine for my 250 chassis. talk about a sleeper. Quote
ZillaRider02 Posted October 17, 2006 Report Posted October 17, 2006 Here's a pic of the one I owned. It had a Mid-Top Port, 41.5 PWK Carb, Shaved Head, A custom pipe, +6" Swinger, Padla Brats, and tons of chrome. It would really haul the mail (I spanked a ton of heavily modified shee's with it), but head gaskets and piston failures were common. Also, second gear in the tranny was prone to break. They're not as heavy as one would think (Mine weighed 10 lbs. more than my Banshee does.....Kinda miss the ole Zilla. http://forums.atvconnection.com/i/GalleryI...79/IMGA0300.JPG http://forums.atvconnection.com/i/GalleryI...79/IMGA0302.JPG Quote
rocketboy Posted October 17, 2006 Report Posted October 17, 2006 if yo u wanna know more about the zilla and its performance go to everything2stroke.com and youll see what theyre all about  Quote
STLBILL Posted October 17, 2006 Report Posted October 17, 2006 In 1993 I had a 1988 'Zilla. It was ridden hard and needed a rebuild, but it was enough for me. Best times: Sometimes I would get a friend to kick it over for me when cold. I was 135 pounds back then. He was 230. He would tell me "put some ass behind it". I didn't have any ass to put behind it. Another buddy claimed to be a CR250 racing champ and he laughed at anything with "training wheels". I remember how everyone laughed at him when he got on the 'Zilla and was scared to wind it out on an open dirt road. He would short shift and never got into 5th. He didn't say much about training wheels after that. Some riding buddies commenting how they could feel the exhaust five-to-six feet or more behind the silencer when we were stopped and idling. You guys know what I mean... how a single-cylinder two-stroke had that uneven idle where you can sometimes count the "bump bump bump". Again nothing like a couple of relatively small inline cylinders. Worst times: The times when I had to put her away cause I couldn't get her started or the kicker "kicked back" and even jammed my leg or almost launched me over the bars. Selling her to get my (now) ex-wife an engagement ring. Quote
