Capone Posted October 7, 2006 Report Posted October 7, 2006 Story: I drive a 94 honda accord, burns oil, dented up, its a piece of shit, but I don't mind it because it gets me from a-b and I save a ton of money driving it. Well, recently the oil burning has gotten worse so I know its going to take a shit so I been looking at cars, waiting for a decent deal. Today I'm putting in glass at a body shop and across the street see a Red Dodge Ram, single cab, short bed with the hemi (lol)... its spotless, hardly even scratches in the bed. reference pic - exact truck So I call the dealership and they say its got 38k miles on it, every option on the inside including the infinity stereo yadda yadda, except leather, and they want $14,300 for it, plus tax title etc... so that right there is a decent deal. I tell him I'll give him a call back. about 3 hours go buy I call and offer cash tomorrow (Saturday) if he can shoot me the right price. so he tells me $14,300 out the door, tax, title etc included. I'll be getting the truck for $13,350. Its got a 7yr 70k mile warranty thats up in 2010 or 31k miles. I like the truck, anyone got any advice? Should I buy? (also, its a 2wd, but its fine with me). LiftdT4R Posted October 7, 2006 Report Posted October 7, 2006 I'd rather be stroked then rammed (always owned Ford trucks here). But sounds like a good deal. Now that Daimler is behind dodge, they seem to have a lot less problems then the older ones. Evreyone I know that has a new ram likes it a lot. I'm not crazy about the big grill look all of these new trucks have, and I wouldn't buy a 2wd, but if you live somewhere like Florida, you probably wouldn't use it. Sounds like a good deal to me. Quote
Bansh-eman Posted October 7, 2006 Report Posted October 7, 2006 iv always been a ford fan until the last fwe years they havent built quality trucks ... they have been doing quanity not quality... i got a 06 Dodge Ram 2500 Turbo Diesel and I LOVE IT! thing is very nice! got the infinity and all that 4x4 yadda yaaa... id say 14.3 out the door is a good price... as long as your not pulling a big ass toy hauler youll be fine it will have alot of power... id go for it... Capone Posted October 7, 2006 Author Report Posted October 7, 2006 Friend of mine just bought a 250 crew cab powerstroke, and I don't see what else you could want in a truck. Its like a 8k lb sports car. Quote
RIPPEN Posted October 7, 2006 Report Posted October 7, 2006 Sounds like a good deal to me.. Its not going to get the fuel eco that the Accord did obviously but it will have WAY more power.. Oh and I much rather be cummin than stroken... RIPPEN Quote
IROOST1 Posted October 7, 2006 Report Posted October 7, 2006 I'd go for it. The dodge's are good. Thats not a bad price. Just get ready to pay for the gas. Even my 4.7 dakota gets only 16mpg on the highway. Quote

ClimbAnyHill Posted October 7, 2006 Report Posted October 7, 2006 Off the top, it's sounds like a deal. But maybe do some research on a Ram forum. We've got 1 Ram & 2 Dakotas in the fam and they've all had transmission problems. The 2001 is the oldest and already had two transmissions rebuilt and it's just a regular driver, no heavy haulin or anything like that. Same with the Dakotas. Nothing but tranny probs and they were bought new from the lot. So yeah, as a suggestion look into it a bit more. I drive a 4 cyl Honda and gets me 425 miles per tank, when I buy my truck it will be a full size 4wd Chevy. The car for me, the truck for the Banshee. Quote
dajogejr Posted October 7, 2006 Report Posted October 7, 2006 There is so much more money in mark up for used vehicles. Tell him to knock it down to 13500 out the door or you're gonna walk. You love the truck...but, Hemi....you gas mileage from your Honda just got cut in 1/3...and, theft rate went up. They love to steal these trucks.... The dealer probably paid 8500 or so for this truck....steal it from them. Insult the hell out of them. You can't bargain as much if you're financing...but...cash in hand. Insult the hell out of 'em. I love my 06 RAM hemi...but, it's a whole different truck than this one! Quote

The car for me, the truck for the Banshee. dodgetalk.com is a pretty good website, im over there on ocassion. What year is the truck? If it is the newer model it will have that Fuel Saving Thinger(forget what it is called). I have always been a dodge person, especially cummins. We used to have fords, now dodge's. And about the transmissions, some people have them go, others don't. I know its not the same but we have a 99 3500 Dually 4 Speed Auto. And we were always hearing that the transmission go pretty quick in the auto's. We have had it for 6-7 years now, and haven't had hardly anything replaced on it except tires, brakes, fluids, few strut bars. And it used to pull 24ft Fifth Wheel Livestcok Trailer. So i say go for it, you'll enjoy the truck  Quote
dajogejr Posted October 8, 2006 Report Posted October 8, 2006 The MDS (I think that's it...where it cuts cylinders) is on the 06 (I've got it, it WORKS!!!) and possibly the 05's. I think this truck is an 03 or 04.... Although I leased mine...(read, I'm not sinking money into it...) thanks for the heads up link, Dinner....I'll have to scope it out sometime. Quote
