Sounds like a really good idea, now there has to be a business plan before you go to Yamaha. But if 99.99% of the bike can be made with aftermarket parts then just come up with a different name for the quad. Change to a different style of plastics and there is nothing Yami can do about it....................

Ben, I don't understand why Yamaha would have to be involved. They will not cease production of parts that sell.Sourcing is not a problem on anything else.Building the powerplant will be custom to each application anyways, correct? There are many connections out there that have the ability to build ground-up Banshees in any form.Keeping the Banshee alive(which is what your after i think)is not at all far fetched or difficult to obtain from my point of view.It would be gathering of needed suppliers and guarantee of production #'s to keep cost down for the end product"like a Shee".

True it wouldn't be entirely necessary to approach Yamaha, just a possibility. Yes in reality each one would probably be different motor-wise, at least unless there was enough demand to merit cookie-cutters.

Exactly, it's not even close to a get-rich quick scheme as much as I'd love to see Banshees still around for my kid's kids. I look at custom choppers and think, why not custom Banshees?? That's the key-supply and demand...enough production to keep costs down and keep the suppliers in business, enough demand to sell them for enough profit to stay in business...

That' a distinct possibility, although it seems ethical to at least find out their position, maybe that's just me heh, wouldn't want to cut off my nose to spite my face...

Fuck Yamaha completly, they don't need to be involved one little bit.

Build your own frame. doesnt have to be fancy chromoly.... mild steel works great for 95% of the public.

There will never be a banshee replacement. Even if they threw together a twin 500 cc four stroke and was fast as a shee and looked just like it, most of u guys would hate it. All the purists for sure.

you can still buy brand new production banshees. Just not in the usa. Drive your ass to mexico and pick one up. The red and black is sick. I wanna get black plastics for my yfz.

Shit man I would pay 10,000 for an 80plus hp bike that had bad ass suspension and tires and chit on it already. That sounds like a kick ass way to start a business. I am in sales myself I have sold cars and done finance for the last 6 years. All you would have to do to pass the emissions test is the same thing that suzuki does. And that is just run them lean real lean. Why the hell do ya think you have to put on the cherry bomb on the damn thing to make it run worth a chit. Hell we could do the same thing and the people could just re jet and go.

You could build one for less than that with 80plus hp and with "bad ass suspension"

That is true big red BUT there are a lot of people who do not have time to build one but they have the money to buy one already built exactly the way they want it. I mean if people will spent 30 grand on a street bike they would drop 10 grand on a quad they would not have to do anything too in a heartbeat you could have a very profitable business and keep a bad ass quad alive.

He Ben, do you think Yamaha would care if you name your new quad Benshee? It would be a cool business if you could get it started. The only hard part is getting started. Once things catch on, you could have a waiting list. What kind of team discount do I get. Cost and I will pick it up. Get started. I am quadless right now. Oh, and I will take the Desert Edition.

Ben,

If you're serious about this, I'll start researching the paperwork. I have been seriously considering starting a business along these same lines anyways, this will give me the excuse to get off my ass and do something.

What do you guys think of the name "Phoenix Customs".

Phoenix - a mythical bird that dies in flames and is reborn from the ashes.

Sounds kind of fitting....

Oh yeah... And I know a guy that does frames, and would probably cut us a real good deal. He builds the SandMaster frames for Banshees, but I'll bet he'd be willing to also do road, track, and whatever else you want.

No they don't at all, only reason I brought that up is thinking about how HD helped Buell out, but I seriously doubt they do Jesse James any favors. The biggest hurdle I see to getting the ball rolling is investment capital; even if Yamaha only provided an affordable source for cases & trannies it would help, if they saw an opportunity to invest some bucks for a facility and help with marketing it would help tremendously.

I know jack about metallurgy and fabrication...wish I knew more there.

Mexico is about 200 miles from here, if all I wanted was an '07 Banshee I could go down there with a gooseneck and get ten of 'em. What I'm talking about is a business building sick customs, making money doing something I'm passionate about...

i was hooked till i got to the "denton stabilizer', then i hit a rut at 60 mph and my bars slapped my in the nuts.....

I kinda threw that one in at the last minute, on a base model something would be better than nothing...ideally tho Scott's on anything but drag...

Today, yeah. First off, when you're doing your own work, labor is cheap as fuck heh. Second, what happens in a couple years when the aftermarket companies deem there's no market for Banshee stuff? If you wanted to build one from a Leager 250R chassis up and Leager threw out the jigs from lack of demand, you're screwed. My point is, having someone building customs like this would make an impact on the market, and most importantly help sustain the aftermarket companies that have invested alot of time & effort into it already.

Yep Josh, getting it off the ground will be tough, but it would be more than worth it if people actually wanted 'em...actually it would matter more if they would be willing to pay for them lol! Gotcha down for DE #2, I'll be racin' the prototype heh ;)

Hell yes Tim I'm serious. The business stuff I'm clueless on, like I said my specialty is sourcing and tech; I've got connections with Patriot Racing, Works Performance, PRM Products, Galfer USA, Denton Racing and Sidewinder from desert racing (and indirectly several more like Janssen, Elka, SFB, and Aktive from team members). We've got access here to alot more, both in terms of vendors (Dune Devil, Noss Machine, Dynatek, etc.) and, more importantly, enthusiasts. I know what it takes to build a kick-ass desert racer, and I'm always wanting to learn from fellow HQers how to make it better or how to build something else equally sick. I could line up every part from lug nuts to carbs to graphics, I could assemble, test and race (torture test) them. What I can't do is stick my neck out and risk everything I've got, I do have a family; that's the one and only reason I'm so concerned about there being a demand enough for them to sustain a business (and indirectly myself of course). I'll put 110% in it (work 56hrs/week now for something I could give a squirt of piss about), 50-60 hours a week is nothing; I'm not looking to get rich, I'd be a happy motherfucker if I could live comfortably and do what I love. So whaddya say?

Oh on the frames, that would be frickin' awesome if he could supply 'em, what I've got in mind is 250R/450R front end geometry/interchangability...
