420_Big_Bore Posted May 7, 2006 Author Report Posted May 7, 2006 i know that by lowering the front sprocket you gain more bottom end, but what happens when you change the rear? Quote
Posted May 7, 2006 Report Posted May 7, 2006 well the smaller the rear the" longer" the gearing , if your motor can pull it you would have a longer top end and a faster top end..... Quote
420_Big_Bore Posted May 7, 2006 Author Report Posted May 7, 2006 ah k, so for me i would need to go to a 42 or 43 rear for more bottom end. Quote
Blue Duece Posted May 8, 2006 Report Posted May 8, 2006 im with rocket boy that bike should be climbing the walls with a third gear launch with a 15 up front, why do you run a 22 in the dirt? im geared 17/40 thats about ten teeth taller than stock, and i just rev it to the rafters and dump the clutch in second and my wheels dont stop spinning till im about mid fourth gear on regular hard pack dirt and my swingarms 2 inches shorter than stock, if i need to hook up i have to roll my throttle on, cruising in fith if i goose the throttle and feather the clutch i can spin my tires, with your mods geared stock you should be able to launch third and wind sixth to the moon Quote
420_Big_Bore Posted May 8, 2006 Author Report Posted May 8, 2006 Thats exactly what i thought, but the reason i got the 22's is because thats what you guys recommened.i was thinking of a shorter swinger as currently i have a +6. Quote
rocketboy Posted May 8, 2006 Report Posted May 8, 2006 id think youd be spinning the beads off the rims in second eve nwith 22"tires. maybe yo u should consider checking your jetting and mods/portwork becuase as been mentioned before it should be very competative and yanking the bars out of your hands with al l those goodies in your sig Quote
bigboybanshee Posted May 8, 2006 Report Posted May 8, 2006 why do you run a 22 in the dirt? 513181 I'm pretty sure that pro wedge 2's only come in 22". When you're taking off, are you dumping it full throttle off the line? Last time I ran the 300' strip, I was running 15/38 gearing and crossed the line barely in third @ 79mph. You should definitely change your gearing up some, my setup is a plain ol stock stroke drag ported 350 and it had plenty of balls to pull tall gearing...that was with the same tires you're running now. 15/41 is not enough for the setup you got. 420_Big_Bore Posted May 9, 2006 Author Report Posted May 9, 2006 (edited) my bike has recently blown a piston and when i rebuilt it, the new pistons i got (prox) had smaller windows. Could this drain some of the power? Or i might invest in a shorter swinger as that will help me take off in 2nd, because i think that my swinger is too long and my bike hasnt got enough power for it. correct me if im wrong. Blue Duece Posted May 9, 2006 Report Posted May 9, 2006 i think if your dirt riding you dont need the dune swinger nor the 22's, i drag guys all the time with long swingarms and allways get the jump on them and after that its just keeping it pinned and shifting, if i put a 15 on my bike id loop it on my launch............i have some kenda bearclaws that are 22's ill put them on for just billy goating around hills, but its a big heavy tire............ sometimes your bike will rev out fine in neutral but lack nuts with a load on it, it would be nice if you new someone local that really new his shit, that could take a peak at it, do a plug chop and see if its running lean maybe it needs more fuel? i dont know theres so many varibles, but with your mods and a 15 you should be breaking your arms when you nail it...... Quote
badassbanshee479 Posted May 9, 2006 Report Posted May 9, 2006 the longer swing arm is gonna make the bike hook less, thats why the longer you go on the swinger, the more paddles you have to run to get more hook. I would have to say there is something wrong with your tune cause you should have no problems pulling the gearig you have now. you say the old pistions had cut widows and the new ones do not?? I would say you should send the pistions out to who ever did the last set and have them cut. your porting is probably based on the cut windows and now you dont have them, so it may be messing the whole works up Quote

blueshee03 Posted May 10, 2006 Report Posted May 10, 2006 (edited) don't know how many of you guys have tried pro wedge 2's but they bite hard and swell up in height like crazy as soon as they start spinning.the faster they turn the higher they get.the pro wedges may be contributing to you bog.with them you can gear a little lower gearing than normal. Malott 1 Posted May 10, 2006 Report Posted May 10, 2006 I think your problem is those tires. I have heard alot of guys say that run those tires that depending on what you are running on they will hook real hard. That MIGHT be why you are having trouble getting off the line. I looked at your mods and I assume you are running on gas? My opinion is you should try to run a larger sprocket on the back. I think 38 is to tall a gear for those tires and gas. On my bike I run 12 paddle superlites on a full drag 350 on alcohol. I have a 8 over arm and run anywhere between 15-44 to 15-46. Your tires have a tendency to hook harder than alot of people think. You could have some tuning issues but I think it is gearing. I read on here where some guys are running a larger front sprocket but I doubt they are turning a tire that grips like yours will. Maybe they are but more than likely they aren't. Just my .02 Quote
Blue Duece Posted May 10, 2006 Report Posted May 10, 2006 (edited) if he's doin 80 bareley in third, that means with 15/41 he's going to about a 140 mph...........heres where i gotta just call bullshit and say fuck man........whatever your smokin you need to pass the thing so we can all get a hit...maybe he has a 41 up front and a 15 in the back that would explain things Edited May 10, 2006 by Blue Duece Quote
blueshee03 Posted May 10, 2006 Report Posted May 10, 2006 (edited) bkabina runs pro wedges on his when we go to the one drag we run once in awhile.they hook harder than any we tried and deffinately can run lower gearing with a higher e.t. and mph.i've seen them run in 500ft dirt with 16-38 gearing and ran a 5.7 crossing finish line in third.i know i was running it.
