yamahakid1 Posted April 3, 2006 Report Posted April 3, 2006 just rebuilt the top end i am getting spark and fuel and the carbs are getting fuel but for some reason the plugs are dead dry and it wont start. It will if i put gas directly into the cylinder for a second then it will die. Then u just kic kkick kick and it doesnt start. what is the problem? Quote
Shee-Male Posted April 3, 2006 Report Posted April 3, 2006 Choke tube in? slides in backwards? idle set? Quote
yamahakid1 Posted April 3, 2006 Author Report Posted April 3, 2006 im sure the slides arent in backwards, but the choke tube im not sure if its on the right way anyone got a picture of it? Quote
yamahakid1 Posted April 3, 2006 Author Report Posted April 3, 2006 umm as far as the idle i have the tors removed what do i do to set the idle? sorry i sound stupid jsut dont want to f soemthing up Quote
yamban88 Posted April 3, 2006 Report Posted April 3, 2006 I just redid my top end and had the same problem. I finally found it was my cylinder head I replaced that and it started up right away. It was leaking air so everytime I would kick it over the air would seep out through it. Hope that helps any. Good luck and let me know what you find out. Quote
yamahakid1 Posted April 3, 2006 Author Report Posted April 3, 2006 is the head the problem because im not getting gas to the cylinders, because the plugs are dry. Quote
banshdog Posted April 3, 2006 Report Posted April 3, 2006 make sure the choke tube is on (simple tube from carb to carb), clean the carbs???? jets, bowls, etc.... who did the rebuild? pistons in correctly? rings? reeds? Quote
sheefreak Posted April 3, 2006 Report Posted April 3, 2006 When is the last time you cleaned the pilot jets? They will clog very easily, and will be very hard to start. Take them out and blow air through them, and carb cleaner. Make sure you can see light through them. Open the throttle right up and kick it a few times, then check the plugs. Should def. see gas on plugs then. I always do a compression test after a rebuild to make sure compression is good. Won't necessarily indicate an air leak, but will tell you if head is leaking, or rings have blow by. My guess is the pilot jets are your problem. Quote
yamban88 Posted April 3, 2006 Report Posted April 3, 2006 Both of my plugs were dry as well. I did a compression test before I put my head on and had good compression in both cyliders. But once the head was on it wasn't sealed enough to force the amount of air it takes to get gas into the motor. Just check your head and make sure your gasket is ok as well. What everyone else is saying might be your problem as well. But I would check your head as well because it is exactly what my problem was. Quote

ogre03 Posted April 3, 2006 Report Posted April 3, 2006 Clean the carbs, (make sure you do the pilot jets) and check the choke tube. The choke tube is a peice of fuel line that's a couple inches long and connects the carbs together. It just runs strait accross the inside from one carb to the other. If plugs are dry though, it seems to me it should be caused by something that prevents fuel from getting to both cylinders. Is the gas on, fuel petcock or lines clogged? Quote

yamban88 Posted April 3, 2006 Report Posted April 3, 2006 I meant before I put my new head on. I see how it sounded though. I might be dumb but not that dumb. Just check it out it is worth a try. I just went through the same thing about a 2 weeks ago. Quote

yamahakid1 Posted April 3, 2006 Author Report Posted April 3, 2006 sorry guys i just never torqued the head down to specs. uhhhhhh. i got one more question my shifting is way off like when i sit there and try to shift. i dont think we ever adjusted that flathead tip screw on the shift shaft, is that why it doesnt shift right. because i ccan get neutral then go to first then when i shift up it soundns like it kinda shifts twice or maybe its inbetween gears or something but i can only shift up once then it stops. what is the problem?
