What would you want for the j-arms and all plastic? Shipped to 54771 -
Thanks for the offer but am only lookin for black or red, and don't want to mess with painting. Thanks though!

Just wondering if anyone has a complete set of black or red plastic they want to get rid of. Let me know or I will see if I can find any on ebay. Thanks!!

Did they find anything out yet? I have been following this as well and would really like to see what the problem was. Could the headpipe be plugged on that side? Good luck and hope you figure it out!

Would the pilot being a 25 be restricting the fuel that much? It doesn't matter if it is choked or not it still dies after 10 seconds or so. I will try some different pilots though when I went to the shop the other day they didn't have any 27.5 could I try a 30 if they have that one?
-
Actually I did check the gas cap line. It wasn't twisted. I took the gas cap off and started it too and it did the same thing. I am running 290 mains with 25 pilots. I have tried 270,280 mains and the same thing was happening. I have a set of 300 that I haven't tried yet.

That is what I am getting stuck on. The plugs both have good spark, compression is good and there is fuel going through all lines and when I take my carbs off there is fuel in them. As soon as it dies I choke it and it starts right back up, then dies after 5-10 seconds.

Hey guys just had a quick question for ya. What are some signs that you have faulty reeds? I was wondering cause I just did my top end and it starts up for 10 seconds or so then the left side quits and a few seconds a later the whole motor dies. It sounds like it runs out of fuel on that side. I have taken my carbs apart and checked everything and it all looks good. So I was hoping that it would be my reeds since I can't find anything else that would stop it from running. Please help!!

Just wondering if the needle being a little loose would affect it staying running?
-
I appreciate all the feedback from you guys. I almost have it going. Now it will run for like 10 seconds and then it feels like the left side runs out of fuel and then it just bogs out like it runs out of fuel. But it will start right back up and it just keeps repeating this. It will be running and the left side shuts down and a few seconds later it quits. I was wondering if it could be my needle, the left side needle was a little more loose than my right side. The right needle was real tight and the left moves just a tiny bit.

Alright I tried it in the 4 clip and nothing. Tried it in the 3 clip and nothing. Airscrew out .5 turn and tried 1 turn. I have tried my stock mains 270,280,290 jets. All it does is start for a split second and then die. Plugs are a little wet but not bad. Have tried 4 different sets of plugs. I took my headpipes off again and some oily fuel came out of them. Don't know if that means anything. Sorry to keep buggin everybody but nothing is working. I called the people that did my cylinder work and the dumb asses can't even tell me what main to start at.
-
I meant before I put my new head on. I see how it sounded though. I might be dumb but not that dumb. Just check it out it is worth a try. I just went through the same thing about a 2 weeks ago.
-
Both of my plugs were dry as well. I did a compression test before I put my head on and had good compression in both cyliders. But once the head was on it wasn't sealed enough to force the amount of air it takes to get gas into the motor. Just check your head and make sure your gasket is ok as well. What everyone else is saying might be your problem as well. But I would check your head as well because it is exactly what my problem was.

I just redid my top end and had the same problem. I finally found it was my cylinder head I replaced that and it started up right away. It was leaking air so everytime I would kick it over the air would seep out through it. Hope that helps any. Good luck and let me know what you find out.

Please help!! I put 290 main in and and turned my airscrew about 2 turns out and set the clip in the 4th notch. Now it won't even attempt to start. I have good hot spark and am getting fuel again but nothing. I was just wondering if maybe my cdi box would be bad? I just don't get that it was running with my stock exhaust and now it won't even fire at all with my fmf's.
-
Alright I took my carbs apart again and my exhaust off. When I took the left side head pipe off there was fuel inside the pipe that poured out. Nothing in the right side. I got to looking at the clip position like you said and the left side was 3 clips up and the right side was four clips up. I am between 1400 and 1500 ft. What would you suggest that I set the clips at and with what main? And also my airscrew? I know it probably is trial and error but would like to have a rough idea of where to start.

Hey guys I need some help here. All the local mechanics I talk to don't have a clue what I am talking about. I just bought a 88 Banshee and redid the whole motor except for the cylinder work.I have stock mikuni carbs and I have a big bore kit in it that is bored .100 over with 70m wsm pistons. I also have stock airbox with k&n filter with outer and the lid off. I live in Wisconsin don't know the elevation. But my question is I had stock exhaust on and it would start every other day. I would have to give it a little shot of starting fluid to get it to go and after that it would run all day. It wouldn't run really good but I figured it was my jetting and didn't piss with it because I had ordered some used fmf pipes and silencers and figured I would worry about the jetting when I recieved the pipes. Well I got the fmf's and 270 mains and installed them. Now it starts for like 3 seconds and then bogs out as soon as I give it some gas to help it idle. So I talked to a local stealership and they told me to put 200 mains in it. I have never done my own work on my bikes up until this one but I know that can't be right. I need help and am getting really frustrated since there is no one around here that can help me!!! The plugs look fouled so I know it sounds like it is getting way to much fuel but how do I set the clip and what would the proper jets be for me? My compression is good and my carbs are spotless. Please help me I feel so dumb that I can't figure this out myself.

Hard Starting even when it is warm out
yamban88 replied to yamban88's topic in Banshee Repairs and Mods
It was starting easily with the choke on before I put the fmf's on. Usually first or second kick. I have tried different plugs and that doesn't help either. I knew the fuel was still a rich but it should still be able to start shouldn't it? This is the first banshee I am trying to fix myself instead of taking it in, but am getting extremely pissed at it. Would I be better off draining all my fuel and mixing it lighter to see if that works? I am stumped everything tests out fine everything is clean. Please Help!! -
Hard Starting even when it is warm out

Well tonight I checked everything over again and I am getting fuel into everything. It will start for a few seconds and then as soon as I give it a little gas to help it idle it floods out, it also popped a couple of times out of the silencers when gas was applied. I rechecked my carbs to see if the slides were sticking or and they are not. Nothing is plugged either. Fuel runs out everywhere, all the clamps are tight between airbox carbs and reed valve. Carbs are in sync. It ran the other day but had a lot of blue smoke but I figured it was my jetting. I had stock exhaust on. Today is when I had all my starting problems I put fmf pipes and silencers on and rejetted it and again it starts for a few seconds and then quits. Help!!!! I have already stuck a lot of money in it and don't want to take it to a shop to have them figure it out unless I have to. -
I just had my top end redone and I can't seem to get it started. It will start one day and the next day I go out to do some more adjusting on it and it won't start. I thought that it was my fuel mixture cause I mixed it a little heavy to break everything back in. So I drained that and remixed at 24-1. It seemed to help up until today. I went out to start it and nothing. The compression is good the carbs are clean the plugs look normal and I have good spark. If I spray a little starting fluid in it it will start and I have no problems the rest of the day. What could my problem be?

I know they wouldn't gain me any power I just couldn't pass them up. They were a year old and in mint shape for under $100. Instead of having them just sit there, I figured maybe I could just use them with my stock pipes until I had enough money for toomey headpipes. My 88 is currently in the shop and haven't had a chance to see if they would fit or not. Thanks for the input though. If anyone has anymore tips let me know!!

I was wondering if I can use toomey t5 silencers and stingers with stock headers? I bought a pair of t5's really cheap and just wanted to know if I had to buy the head pipes also. Or if I could just get away with just using the silencers for now without having to buy expensive head pipes?
