SHEESaBEAST Posted December 24, 2005 Report Posted December 24, 2005 OK, big problem here, i have a 99 shee with a trinity stage 4 420 big bore long rod, and my problem occurred one day while just cruisin round the neighborhood. I stopped at my buddies house and we decided to take off, we leave his driveway and i realize something is wrong when i have NO POWER where i normally do. My power band was steep and you had to hold on, now my power band is non-existent and you could go no handed. I cant even get it up to 40 mph now, and i used to be able to get it to 95. I thought it was a head gasket issue, because i had one before and wasnt sure if i fixed it right. So i got a new head gasket and sealed her up good. no help there. Now i figure its a spark issue and i checked spark to find that both plugs are goin strong. So i sit back and think, could it be timing?? if it is how could this problem be fixed. it sounds like the engine is NOT firing right, it sounds off, its hard to explain in text, but if you can offer any suggestions please do, its been like this since the end of july and i had to go to college (pfffff). so i want to get it fixed this winter break so i can go to the dunes next summer. 1000dollabill Posted December 24, 2005 Report Posted December 24, 2005 if it sounds healthy than i would imagine you nead a clutch. put it in gear and push it. pull in the clutch and push it. if it's about the same, pop a new clutch in. Quote
BansheeBillyBob Posted December 24, 2005 Report Posted December 24, 2005 haha im glad someone had the same idea as me i was a lil reluctant to reply to that one cause i aint the biggest gear head but that kinda came to my mind when i read his post Quote
Ruko Posted December 24, 2005 Report Posted December 24, 2005 You say it's not firing right.... I had a broken ring on one side and it would still run cause the other side was good, but it had no power and kinda coughed and sputtered. If you don't have a compression tester you can check to see if both pipes are hot. Also put your hand over each pipe end and see if you have the same amount of exhaust pressure coming out. But the best way to tell if you have a dead cyl. is to do a compession test. Quote
banshee tuner Posted December 24, 2005 Report Posted December 24, 2005 If it revs right but does not go it is the clutch, if it won't rev it could be reeds or tors if you have not removed it. Quote
SHEESaBEAST Posted December 26, 2005 Author Report Posted December 26, 2005 hey guys thanks alot, yeah the clutch could be the problem, but could the clutch really cause the bike to lose all power, could you explain what the clutch is doing that would make it so horrible? i thought reeds at first, turns out not, then i figured spark, but i had it in both cylinders, i took of the silencers and ran it thinking there might be something obstructing the exhaust, no luck, and then i think its an electrical problem, now it might be the clutch, any more words of wisdom as to which one it most likely is? Quote
banshee tuner Posted December 26, 2005 Report Posted December 26, 2005 The clutch is the direct link from your engine to the rear wheels. If the clutch does not grab you have no go. Quote
Wallrat Posted December 26, 2005 Report Posted December 26, 2005 Ah but if its the clutch the engine will wind up just fine, it'll continue to rev out when riding but the tires won't be moving any faster. It sounds like he's saying its running rough, like maybe on only 1 cylinder. Check to see if you have equal exhaust pressure coming out of the pipes and get back to us. Quote
fast87 Posted December 26, 2005 Report Posted December 26, 2005 so is the chain...and the axle, there are MANY parts that come between the crank and your tires...don't buy a clutch until you get it apart is my advice, maybe the basket nut came off..there are many possibilities, usually you will feel a clutch slipping more and more..because it's a wear item, it usualyl doesn't just quit on you, it slowly wears down...good luck tho, take off the right side case first, then the flywheel side, flywheel, etc...and make sure everything looks ducky ~Mark~ Quote
SHEESaBEAST Posted December 26, 2005 Author Report Posted December 26, 2005 the exhaust pressure is the same, ill tell you this much about reving, it will rev fairly well, but i honestly cant remember what it sounded like before the problem started, so i cant get the sound matched against anything. But i have a knowledgable neighbor and he said that sometimes the spark plugs will crap out and intermittantly go out on you, say only spark every other stroke, so he said try to get some new plugs and try those out. also, what about takin it to a shop to have them diagnose the problem, do you think they could find it any bettter than us? i dont wanna pay em $150 to find nothing out. I also switched the spark wires around, and it seemed to run differently, but maybe that was all mental. thanks alot for your guys' help so far. Quote
SHEESaBEAST Posted December 26, 2005 Author Report Posted December 26, 2005 ive just been informed that i should check my reeds before i check anything else, so ill get on that then let you know how its performs once i get some new reeds on. Quote
trinityshee Posted December 27, 2005 Report Posted December 27, 2005 over the summer i rebuilt a trinity motor basically the same as what u have. and it rana i dentical to what you are saying idle mint only rev a litlle and bacfire once in a while. and what we found was the stator was bad and the weird part was it tested perfect . i swaped the stator off my banshee to it and it ran great so i would try a stator if the reeds dont work.
