Joshtruction Posted December 2, 2005 Report Posted December 2, 2005 anyone ever see a banshee motor swapped into a YFZ? I really like the YFZ's other than the lack of two stroke power. I really am a two stroke type of guy. That just made me curious about the swap. I think it would be pretty mean. Quote
ssanddemon Posted December 2, 2005 Report Posted December 2, 2005 It would be a hellacious ride for sure. Locogato has done some mean swaps; he may have some pointers other than the basic stuff like taking lots of measurements before cutting or welding, plan on having to build or heavily modify pipes, etc. It is a major job, not for a beginner fab guy. Personally, I'm stalled out on a CB650-powered Zook LT right now. It's always more work than it looks! Quote
Gargamel Posted December 2, 2005 Report Posted December 2, 2005 It is not as easy as it sounds. A lot of fab work and engineering you have to account for, like getting the weight of the motor distributed properly and centered in the wheel base. Welding/Fab skill that will keep the motor in place and stay aligned. Not saying impossible but I would say not for the beginner home fab guy. I love to build and fab crap like that. I have been a metal fabricator for 8 years and I still get outside help doing stuff that evolved. But very doable. Quote
broke Posted December 2, 2005 Report Posted December 2, 2005 It's been done. One was on Ebay a while ago, but I'm sure the listing has long since expired. Quote
yfzut Posted December 2, 2005 Report Posted December 2, 2005 i got started doing that same project and what i found is the radiator on the yfz comes very clode to the pipes, you could have cpi build a set just to clear it. i was going to just run drag pipes anyway and the room for the carbs is ok and there is plenty of materail there for fabbing up motor mounts. i will still end up doing one. but for now im putting yfz plastic, seat and tank on a banshee without the radiator shrouds and a qaudtech softer seat. and it looks awsome. i will get some pics as soon as its done. the hardest thing on the plastic conversion is you need to reshape the u shaped mount for the steering post mountso the yfz plastic will sit as low as it needs to. 00BANSHEE Posted December 2, 2005 Report Posted December 2, 2005 I would love to have the old cheetah motor in my YFZ450 frame. Quote
rebelbanshee2 Posted December 2, 2005 Report Posted December 2, 2005 there is a reason you dont see it much. those pipes are hard to put somewhere other than a banshee frame. If you want handling and two stroke power get a 250r and put a 330 jug on it. Quote

Like Broke said, I remember the YFZ on ebay a while ago that had the Banshee motor in it. Looked kinda goofing, mostly because of the pipes looking so weird on a YFZ. If you want handling and two stroke power get a 250r and put a 330 jug on it. 444221 Good point, much simplier. If ya want more power...look into a cr500 motor or this--->Saber Racing! hittintrees srh Posted December 3, 2005 Report Posted December 3, 2005 GOD DAMN!!! that saber tooth is f**kin awsome!! Quote
broke Posted December 3, 2005 Report Posted December 3, 2005 GOD DAMN!!! that saber tooth is f**kin awsome!! 444445 Yes they are, they are built by the same guy that builds the Cheetahs and the Cubs. They are more popular over at PS. Check out some of the videos over there of these things. The have one with a turbo on it in a Banshee frame on a Dyno. The thing really tries to pull off the dyno every time it builds boost. Quote
