silvermach2002 Posted August 5, 2005 Report Posted August 5, 2005 I have a 2001 banshee that will not run. Cylinders have good compression. Engine is getting fuel. Reeds are ok. Engine will fire and run for about 5 sec but that is it. Dealer says it is the pipes. Any suggestions? Quote
H250RHATER Posted August 5, 2005 Report Posted August 5, 2005 Dealer says 401161[/snapback] the dealer says alot of things but there never right just a guess but look at your carbs Quote
Timmy301 Posted August 5, 2005 Report Posted August 5, 2005 well, just what kind of pipes are they? Is this a all stock machine? when it is running how does it run? Does it idle fast, slow,is it sputtering? you need to give alittle more info on how it running when it does run. you may j ust need to turn the idle up a bit, clean the carbs and air filter, repack the silencers If there are aftermarket parts on the bike what are they? do you know what size jets are in there? good luck... silvermach2002 Posted August 5, 2005 Author Report Posted August 5, 2005 It is running very rich I think (oil coming out of the silencer). Quad is stock. Quote
dbkid13 Posted August 5, 2005 Report Posted August 5, 2005 First off you posted in the wrong forum but I am sure a mods will move it or something. It sounds like you know a little what you are doing since you checked your gas, reeds and compression. If the dealer says that its the pipes I am sure they are referring to the jetting, to do a quick test on jetting pull your plugs and check the color of them. Here is an excelent page for jetting http://www.dfn.com/agservices/jetfaq.html. Also if you post your engine mods that affect air flow (pipes, filters, reeds) and your elevation the gurus will tell you what your jetting should be. Welcome to the Forums. -------------Sam Quote
silvermach2002 Posted August 5, 2005 Author Report Posted August 5, 2005 The only thing that i can think of is that the problem started when the previous owner put a twist throttle on. Did he do something wrong? Quote
Timmy301 Posted August 5, 2005 Report Posted August 5, 2005 make sure the carbs are in sinc. and are adjusted properly read this to..http://www.dfn.com/benkaren/jetfaq.html a member here put that info together,Thanks ben Quote
Dunsmoor86 Posted August 5, 2005 Report Posted August 5, 2005 Make sure the TORS is removed. Little black box to the left of the coil unplug it. Quote
pimpeinkc Posted August 5, 2005 Report Posted August 5, 2005 did it run when you bought it. or did you get it like it is now. if it fires, and dies, i would check your plugs like they have said. then move on to pilot jet mak sure it is not clogged, and i would also check the sync like before stated. does it do any better with the chock on Quote
Toomey Banshee Posted August 5, 2005 Report Posted August 5, 2005 Check and be sure you unplug your TORS and parking brake assemblies. Quote
racer Posted August 5, 2005 Report Posted August 5, 2005 does it run smooth for that first five seconds? depending on how often it was used in its previous owenr's posession it may just need a lil carb cleaning or a new fuel filter. little things like that are free, so check into them first. Quote
J-Madd Posted August 5, 2005 Report Posted August 5, 2005 Is no one gonna mention the choke tube? By far the most common overlooked problem for new Banshee owners. Make sure the tube is in place between the carbs. Quote
silvermach2002 Posted August 6, 2005 Author Report Posted August 6, 2005 It has been to the dealer twice and they cant even seem to fix it. Everything looks normal, it has been riped apart and put back togeather twice now. It will run fine for like 5 sec and then that is it, and it wont start again for awhile after that. Quote
racer Posted August 6, 2005 Report Posted August 6, 2005 id bet money youve got seriously poor fuel flow. pull the petcock out of the tank and take a look at the two fibermesh filters atop the intake tubes. if these are nasty you can cut them off with some shears and then use an inline filter with all news hoses. if that doesnt solve it look into the carb floats. take the easiest/cheapest routes first. fast87 Posted August 6, 2005 Report Posted August 6, 2005 87 cents says it's electical, but to make sure it's not the twist throttle, make sure the slides are almost closed, or even put the thumb throttle back on...anyway back to electrical, since i tore everything down this last couple months, it sometimes acts the same way on cold startup, it starts first kick, revvs up alittle as usual, then totally cuts out like i hit the kill switch(it's done it a couple times when hot too, but luckily i wasn't drag racing at the times), when it does it hot the next kick fires it up and is good to go, but when it does that while the engine is cold from overnight sitting, i kick it and the engine turns over a couple times(like it's running) then stops like i hit the kill switch, it will do this for up to 8-10 kicks. But when it does stay running it's good for the day...try swapping out electric components with a different banshee to fix the problem, if you find it out please let me know, from the few times it does that, it has backfired also, and people give me this weird look and assume my beloved banshee is a piecer..so i show em up on the dunes!! anyway good luck with your problem, i was thinking stator or CDI box, or even coil, maybe there's tests you can or a dealer can do on em ~Mark~ Quote
