Thats weird how close the Toomey and Dg Curves look like each other. I use to have Toomey T-5's and just bought a new bike with Dg's. I liked the T-5's a little better but its probably just because I have always heard they were the best. ---Sam

Thanks for the support guys. I have been arguing with my insurance company all morning and they are not going to cover it because of some bullshit clause. My only hope is to find it now or work all this summer again to buy another one. Being in college and trying to maintain a four wheeler is hard enough however when you save all summer to buy one and then have it stolen a year later it really sucks. Thanks again guys. --Sam

Sweet, thanks guys, I was just a little scared cause my old banshee was on a 6 year old top end and then when it failed some chucks of piston fell into the lower end making it kinda an expensive rebuild but I guess you cant really avoid thaat. ----------------SAM

So I purchased a 96 Banshee at the start of summer and this winter I am going to rebuild it and was wondering what all I need to replace. The orginal owner road it very little and it is still on its orginal top end. My compression is about 122 in each cylinder and it still runs great however I feel its time to redo the top end before its to late. Now my question is can I just replace my rings or am I going to have to by a whole piston kit. I have read that if you do it often enough you can just do the rings. Thanks in advance for your input. ------------Sam By the way it is 100% stock (I bought it for the girlfriend to ride)

Not real sure but on a intermittent spark problem there is probably something loose or you might be cooking something like you said. if you have the stator cover off check the little black thing below it to make sure that it didnt come loose, i have head of this happening before. Otherwise good luck and hopefully one of the more experienced guys can help. -----------Sam FAST clutchs are suppose to rock.

Well I have the motor all the way out, who rebuilds cracks around here and how much does it cost?? I am not sure if I can afford to get it done anytime soon because Michigan keeps uping tuiton (them bastards) but I want to get a plan together for when I do have more money and by the way if you blew four motors in one season I would say something is not right, a motor should last at least a couple hundred hours unless you are getting to much clearence somewhere or something. I might go to a different machine shop or something. Does anyone know how to get a hold of that tutorial on how to split the case??????????
-
Is there any good tutorials on how to split the case?? and is there anything else I should do while I am in there?? Thanks. ------------------Sam

Yeah I know that 110 isnt great but I heard that you didnt really need to reduild them till 100, anyways next time I know to rebuild it at like 115 and play it safe, it actually blew up when I was just letting it warm up. Kinda werid but I figured that it had prolly already started to come a part a little or crack or somethign and then just let go. I will be using MOTO-MAN in canton to do the jug work and wiesco pistons. ANYONE heard of these peopl (motoman in Canton, MI) and know how good of work they do??????????????

So yeah I added a big landing to my jump today and was out just breaking it in and the shee started knockin. The machine is 6 years old (99) and was on its originall set of pistons and rings however last time I did a compression check it was 110 PSI so it should of still been fine. I always run klotz R50. Now my questions are how do I get the pieces of metal out of the low end?? I dont feel like splitting the case because I am not very knowledable and I think that I got most of the pieces out because they were still on top of the piston. I was thinking about just flushing it out with some ATF or some kind of cheaper oil. My second question is why do you think it blew up. Plugs looked rich (I like to be on the safe side) and the compression seemed fine. THis is my first Banshee rebuild so any advice and words of wisdom would be thankful (problems that you might of ran into on your rebuild or anything like that). Here is a link to the tear down pics. http://community.webshots.com/user/dbkid13 THanks for your help.

IF that was on the website it is probably right, however seeems a little rich to me. The pilot also seems a little bit since all you have is pipes but I would start there since it is recommend here is an awcome site on jetting made by someone on this site http://www.dfn.com/agservices/jetfaq.html. I have the toomey t-5s and a foam filter and I am running 280's and 27.5. Make sure that you post your elevatioin and temp that you usually ride in and someone will help you. -------Sam
-
First off you posted in the wrong forum but I am sure a mods will move it or something. It sounds like you know a little what you are doing since you checked your gas, reeds and compression. If the dealer says that its the pipes I am sure they are referring to the jetting, to do a quick test on jetting pull your plugs and check the color of them. Here is an excelent page for jetting http://www.dfn.com/agservices/jetfaq.html. Also if you post your engine mods that affect air flow (pipes, filters, reeds) and your elevation the gurus will tell you what your jetting should be. Welcome to the Forums. -------------Sam

Any places to ride near Ann Arbor Michigan?
dbkid13 replied to dbkid13's topic in General Banshee Discussion
I found a place called the mounds that I checked out on Wensday north of Flint. It seemed pretty cool however the mud puddles were almost impossible to avoid and I went through one and it ended up being pretty deep. Very technical riding in the middle but more mud also. Here is the link http://ai.eecs.umich.edu/~mirror/Areas/Mounds.html. Thanks for the responce I will check out that Baja thing even though motocross isnt really my thing. -------Sam -

I was just wondering if anyone knows any good places to ride with in 45 minutes of Ann Arbor. I know that there are a lot of good places up north but if anyone knows of a retired gravel pit it would be greatly appreciated. As of now the only place I get to ride is when I trailer it to the dunes or grayling which are both over 3 hours to ride. Thanks. --------------Sam

So I ordered two sets of rear brake pads from ebay and the guy sent me a set (left and right wheel) of front brake pads. However I am going up north wensday and was wondering if I can run the front pads on the back. They look pretty similar other then the tabs on the side. If anyone has tried this it would be appreciated if you posted the results. Thanks. -----------Sam Also I took my rear caliper apart and think that the pins are seized, from my understanding the pins (circled in red on pic below) are suppose to slide so that the metal bracket that attaches to the frame circled in green slides back in forth (i know the bracket is on the other side of the caliper where you cant see but this was the best picture I could find on ebay). Well my metal thing dosent slide at all on the side with the alan bolt behind in however seems to slide on the other side if you put on a little pressure from a vise. Anyideas on how to deseize the one side, I tried removing the alan bolt and it is in there pretty damn good. I am really hoping I dont have to buy a new caliper .
-
yeah they do nothing really, the only purpose is to equalize the air pressure. From what I have read the stock air tube is just as helpful however either way becarful that they dont rub anything and cause a hole cause it will lean out the engine and blew it up. ---------Sam

I have the belkin transmitter and it works good when your close to the antenna, also go to slickdeals.com to look for good deals on mp3 players, thats where I found my dell dj 20 giger for like $125. You can find some good stuff for cheap there. ---Sam

Compression reading hot/cold
dbkid13 replied to Rare Scottish Tree Badger's topic in Banshee Repairs and Mods
I had 115 when it was cold and 125ish when it was warm, pretty much stock. -
Try this picture, may not link you to the direct page but you can get an idea of where to go. ---Sam http://216.37.204.202/yamaha_oem/YamahaATV...e=13&A=138&B=31
