Bigger carbs

My buddy keeps blowing his topend. He has a pretty decent port job ( quad is very fast). He is running stock carbs. I think when he is in 5th and 6th gear the bowls are being sucked dry making it real lean. Could this be right or will stock carbs work?

does he use the stock intake boots?

maybe the big carbs are cracking the boots and making an air leak

too many other things we need to know here. jetting is one thing we need. stock stroke im assuming? what kinda air filter setup? generally stock stroke wont drain bowls copletely dry. i hear more of this happening with 4mm strokers. something has to be off in the jetting. sounds lean to me.

He has stock stroke, pod filters and he has cracked the intakes because of that damn boost bottle. I'm pretty sure he just siliconed the leak up though. He runs 350 mains in the stock carbs. We are about 3000 ft above the sea.

There is your culprit. Time for some new boots. Money says that if he sprays carb cleaner or starting fluid near the intakes (not filters) he will get a little surprise.

thats real fuckin dumb. something so cheap is costing him tons of money in rebuilds...
