Shee-Male Posted June 14, 2005 Report Posted June 14, 2005 I have an 03 Banshee with FMF fatties and the othe typical mods, and I just picked up a COMPLETE 84 RZ350 for 400$ and would like to do the swap. My Q's are: can I modify my FMF's and use them?, should I swap the whole damb thing or just the jugs and eclecs?, is there any peices I have to remove like the oil injection pumps?, can I use my bored banshee carbs? Any help would be great since I know theres a few of you @HQ that have done this. Thanx.............. Quote
rx7500hpt2 Posted June 14, 2005 Report Posted June 14, 2005 You have to make some exhaust flanges that except a banshee style pipe. You can use the fmf's but you have to put some dents in them to clear the power valves, paul turner pipes fit with no problem. The pump can be removed and a block off plate from a banshee can be bolted on. If you want to keep the lower geared transmission put the rz jugs, wiring on your lower end. I'm running a complete rz motor, the gears are spaced a little higher. If you plan on doing a full engine overhaul, get a banshee transmission off of ebay and stick it in. That way you can keep your other banshee motor complete. Quote

chris642 Posted June 15, 2005 Report Posted June 15, 2005 i say keep the rz as it is, put some drag pipes on it and go cruzing around town in style Quote
cbn70 Posted June 15, 2005 Report Posted June 15, 2005 I thought someone said that you can get exhaust flange adapters from Spec 2 instead of making thm to accept the exhaust pipes. Anyone else heard this?? Quote
rx7500hpt2 Posted June 15, 2005 Report Posted June 15, 2005 I think the gearing isn't that bad. 1st through 3rd are spaced apart where as the banshee's are closer together. I run 12-42 sprockets and it seems fine. I mainly ride in Glamis or the desert. Just drop the motor in as is and try it, thats what I did. Quote
rzcolobanshee Posted June 15, 2005 Report Posted June 15, 2005 Yeah I think Spec2 makes flanges, sounds familiar anyway, but I'm sure they're not cheap! I used to have fmf sst's on mine, made some pretty good dents Quote
wegotjs Posted June 20, 2005 Report Posted June 20, 2005 I got all the material for my exhaust flanges and paid a machinist $75 to weld them and machine them.( E-mail me & I can give you some pics). You dont have to make them but you would have to cut the flanges off of your pipes and do some welding on them.My other suggestion is that you change theTranny,The gears are just to far apart unless your runnig a 100 H.P.The sprocket helps but it's the space between them not there hight.Try finding a local banshee asphault drag shop, alot of the high H.P. banshees run the trannys they probably will trade you (mine did). MAKE SURE ALL YOUR ELECTONICS WORK ON THE BIKE the stock banshee coil is the only banshee part you can use. Hope some of this info helps . It's more work than you think. Quote
broke Posted June 20, 2005 Report Posted June 20, 2005 Just change out the clusters, keep the forks and drum. Most people I know of that swap the complete motor in come away less than satisfied. I ran a ported RZ top end on a Banshee bottom end and that seemed to work great. This year I have gone with a +4 crank, Passions 12 port, Banshee gear cluxters with RZ forks and drum. It should be the best of all worlds, I'll give a ride report. Quote
cbn70 Posted June 20, 2005 Report Posted June 20, 2005 When I had my rz/banshee, I used the rz gears and liked it. I always thought that the banshee 1-2 were always a little too close ratio wise. Quote

wegotjs Posted June 21, 2005 Report Posted June 21, 2005 I agree with Broke you want to keep the rest of the tranny it's better than the SHEE, just the actual gears.I don't find that there is a problem with the gearing when you are riding normaly but when from a dead stop draging a hill or coming out of a steep tree shot it's a killer.I tried posting pics of the exhuast & keep getting errors so E-mail me & i'll send them to you.( I made my flanges out of alum. you may want to try them out of steel it may really drop the price) Quote
