Maverick302 Posted June 8, 2005 Report Posted June 8, 2005 (edited) Katana is a street version of the racier gsx-r. Things like a smoother powerband, higher bars, and a more upright riding position are used to give it a more comfortable feel for the road. A gixxer can be scary for a beginner. And as for the drag race thing, you will get beat by the race inspired versions, and outright smoked by litrebikes. It is by no means a slow bike, it could easily beat your banshee, but the cbr's, zx6's, gsx-r's and r-6's are designed to go fast. Bottom line, it is plenty powerful for you, and you'd be better off with the katana than a gixxer, especially if you plan on half hour rides and longer. Edit: How much is the dealer sellin it for? racer Posted June 8, 2005 Report Posted June 8, 2005 if the dealer will trade you straight up for the bike you are getting ripped the fuck off, no matter what condition it is in. you would be light years ahead to buy it outright. Quote
CombatTalon2 Posted June 9, 2005 Report Posted June 9, 2005 Stay away from the katana....buy an older CBR600F3 or a ZX-6R. Katanas are not only the fugliest bikes around, but they are slow. I think they are oil cooled as well. You could not GIVE me a katana---- Can-O-Tuna. haha Seriously get a couple year old CBR or ZX6-R you will be much happier, and people wont laugh at you as much! gatesy Posted June 9, 2005 Report Posted June 9, 2005 VFR400's arnt bad, they can take a beating. One of my altime favs is the rgv250, that is a fantastic bike. The R6 is toooo powerful for a beginer, I unfortunatly just sold my 03 R6. I miss it already Quote

If i was still in england i would agree. Also the CBR400 and ZX4 were good bikes! Still the Aprillias were classy looking machines! Quote

The katana is a slug, if you want comfort but a cb600 or the suzuki sv650! They are great touring bikes (mid range) I reckon for a first 'sports' bike the 400's are great. Just my 2 cents Quote

I thought that the expression CAN O TUNA was only out here in NY . Katanas get no respect around here. I do have to agree with the CBR or Ninja. They have better low end power for older 600's and I do think the Can O Tuna...uhm,uhm... I mean Katana, isn't a bad bike but I personally wouldn't cop it. But then again when you're riding, you're riding meng, and that's all that counts I guess Good luck Quote
1000dollabill Posted June 9, 2005 Report Posted June 9, 2005 honestly one of the best beginner bikes out there is the Suzuki sv650 and sv650s. at least if you like the idea of a vtwin. if you want a four, definately go with an older cbr600, they are bullet proof and great bikes. if you get a katana you will hate yourself in two weeks. that motor hasn't changed in more than ten years. oil cooled pooper. you can start on any bike you want, as long as you have self control. in the last three years i've had 8,000 miles of riding a sv, and 13,000 miles on a gixxer1. and just remeber zip ties add character, and glamour bikers are flamin. check out stuntlife.com for good deals on cbr's. later, bill by the way, i've owned a banshee for a month and can honestly say a shee will eat up a katana. not to mention they are sick lookin. no katana is as valuable as a banshee. for good insurance rates check out nationwide. i'm 22 and pay $680 a year with 250 deducts. full coverage. but you have to insure a car also Quote
