flanders Posted April 10, 2005 Report Posted April 10, 2005 Hey, ive been riding at Coos Bay and Winchester Bay for about 15 years now (6 hour drive) and lately i have been really craving to go somewhere new. ive seen a few pics of St Anthonys on the internet, and although it would be an 18-20 hour drive, i am thinking about going there the first or second week of june. can anyone tell me how those dunes compare to coos bay and winchester bay, and how the weather typically is? any other helpful info is more then welcome as well, like height, for jetting, the types of people that show up, or whatever you can think of. thanks Quote
dnhyoung Posted April 10, 2005 Report Posted April 10, 2005 we are headed there the 18-24 of june for our first time. you might want to check what's available for accomodations. I'm not sure wether you camp or motel it, but the campground we are staying at is filling up fast. full kookups are already gone Quote
sandgrencivic2k1 Posted April 18, 2005 Report Posted April 18, 2005 St. Anthony is great. I have only been to Winchester Bay once, and St. anthony is by far better. There are miles upon miles of dunes, ranging from some rollers to the deepest bowls Ive seen. The weather is usually pretty good mid 80's, but that was in the first week of August not sure what it would be in June. the elevation is around 5000 feet so I would drop about 2 jet sizes from what you run at Winchester, it would keep you on the safe side you could almost drop 3. There are a couple resorts around, Sand Hills Resort is very nice but is on the north end of dunes and takes about 20-30 mins to hit the real steep stuff. There are 2 other campgrounds to the south one called Oasis, and I forget the other one, they are close to the steep stuff but accomodations aren't as clean and nice as Sand hills. Defininetly find Choke Cherry, Dead horse bowl, and Devils dune when you are there, they are a blast. Quote

bansheeryder_69 Posted April 20, 2005 Report Posted April 20, 2005 I would recommend staying at a hotel in Rexburg and just doing the max 15 min. converse from St. Anthony's to the motel 8 or shilo inn right off of the high way. St. Anthony is some of the steepest dunes in North America and you should definitely hit Big bowl, Devils Dune, and The mother of them all choke cherry. Just PM me before you go if you want a guide. And here in Idaho you can never guess the weather so be prepared for rain or wind but most of the time its perfect riding. Quote

flanders Posted June 9, 2005 Author Report Posted June 9, 2005 well, i just started a new job at the yamaha shop around here two weeks ago now, so its lookin like the trip to st anthonys might have to be postponed. if anyone is still thinking about heading there and doesnt have a for sure date yet, let me know and maybe we can meet up or somethin. i would like to go this month, but my buddy that is also going with us, just started a new job yesterday, so im hopin work doesnt get in the way. ima talk to everyone tonight and try to figure shit out. by the way, how packed are those campgrounds around this time of year? im thinkin the hotel might be the way to go, but we always camp when we go to the dunes anyway, so it wouldnt be too big of a deal either way. i need to order up so much crap for my shee as it is, i guess this is some incentive to hurry up and get it done.
