  1. Hey guys, for my senior design (mechanical engineering @ st martins university) we are doing SAE Mini Baja. I've been riding and building stuff like this since i could walk, but i just wanted to see if i could get some feedback from you guys. We have a forum (8 strong now haha) that we post all updates on and it would be really cool if anyone wanted to take a look at what we have to get an outside point of view. The website is http://homepages.stmartin.edu/orgs/SDME06B/ If anyone has anything they would like to comment on, feel free to join the forum or pm me. If you would like to find me on the forum, my name is randy and i am the project manager. Thanks
  2. thanks for the suggestion, ill definitely look into it. As far as fabin stuff up, we're building our a-arms, swing arms, axle, and a few other things besides the chassis, but i was hoping to use the brakes and spindles off of a 450. how far along is your project? if you guys would like to take a look at ours, our website is http://homepages.stmartin.edu/orgs/SDME06B/ Take it easy guys
  3. Hey guys, I'm a senior in mechanical engineering at Saint Martin's University and somehow I ended up talking my senior design professor into letting us enter SAE minibaja for our senior design project. For our project we are designing/builiding basically a single seater sandrail. The frame is almost complete now and we have most of our key parts, but we would like to use YFZ450 spindles, hubs, brakes, and possibly front shocks for our build. I havent had any luck finding these so far, so if anyone has any of these parts please pm me and I will get back to you asap. If anyone is looking for a trade, I would be willing to donate some of my parts for our project.
  4. so, last night me and my buddy had been doing a little excessive drinking and somehow got on the topic of indycars running quarter mile times. I think an indy car would run under a 10sec quarter and my buddy thinks an indycar would run over 10 secs while using the same gearing they do for their normal tracks. at 1550lb and around 800hp, i dont see how it couldnt run under a 10. if anyone can find concrete evidence please pass it on... theres a case of beer riding on this wager.
  5. i live about 30min away, im headin to the dunes this weekend, but ill see what i can do. did you buy the computer just from this guy or does he have a business front? i might be able to make a field trip with a couple of the boys lol
  6. can you send me a pic to randy5703@hotmail.com? if they are still for sale after i get off work i will drop you a pm and send out the money tonight, becuase i would need them by friday. thanks
  7. im interested in buying the works rear shock, but i dont get home until about 530-545. im offering $200 plus shipping. after lunch i doubt i will be able to get on again until i get home. the main problem i have is, i would need the shock here by friday at the latest. let me know what ya think, ill be on for another 20-25min
  8. im goin to the dunes on saturday and i really need a warrior or 250r rear shock. if anyone has one please pm me. thanks
  9. Oneal M-10's. I worked at the local yamaha shop last summer and that is the only boot i would ever sell to people... they are by far the most comfortable boot ive ever worn, and they wont break the bank. I think we sold them for right around 150. before you buy any boot, go try a pair of those on.
  10. I used adobe premier for a couple years in hs, then i got vegas video 5.0. it took a while to get used to the different functions/controls, but from a beginners perspective, i would probably say vegas is easier to use, not to mention, if you actually buy it, it comes with a dvd architect, so you can lay out your own dvds. my ex got it for me about two years ago, and i still use it all the time. the only problem i have is, every year i add more to my banshee, thus making the last years footage damn near worthless haha btw, what kind of camera did you go with?
  11. better keep savin up that money, god knows i cant make it more then two weeks without getting my eyebrows waxed haha anyway, i just turned 21, got my banshee all torn down again and cleanin her up.
  12. for the love of god take it easy on me haha, i had it all torn apart today and just kinda halfass threw it all back together. im not even close to getting it the way i want it, but i opened my big mouth too soon, so here is where im sittin now.
  13. well we have problems... the chocolate milk that was comin out of the exhaust is comin before the turbo. i was hopin that it would just be somethin from the turbo, but i must have blown an o-ring in the cool head or somethin becuase i tore it apart last night and there is water/oil in the exhaust before the turbo... so im gonna tear the head apart tonight and see if i can get it back together to hit up the dyno this weekend... i think this project is more stressful then college haha im at school now, but ill take some pics of it when i get home while it looks crappy, becuase i thought i would have had all the small things done by now, but apparently the plans have changed. it actually might be kinda cool to see the before and after, becuase it is a mess right now. and as far as decibels go, without a silencer on it, i think shes sittin right around 120ish...
  14. im runnin an ihi rhb3, intercooler, 34mm flat slides, 23cc dome cool head, vforce reeds, and the timing is retarded about -4. im lookin to run about 6-8 pounds out of it, i think thats about all that turbo is good for lol, but it should be interesting... i ran into my first problem today though. we have chocolate milk comin out of the exhaust... its really worryin me. i drained the bottom end and it all looked good. spark plugs looked clean, that really only leaves the turbo having a bad seal or bearing, but there is no water goin through the turbo... its freakin me out a little. i mean, it wouldnt be so bad if it was just oil comin out becuase it was running so rich, but this stuff worries me. the crap comin out of the exhaust pipe doesnt even feel like oil. on a better note, i did pick up the blow off valve today, but they had to order the flange for it. hopefully i can get that terd welded in this weekend and then ill actually be able to take it out on a ride. im thinkin i might just throw on the plastic tomorrow and clean it up a tiny bit just to show ya a couple pics. and then show ya more pics when i get it all finished up. she is still a long way from being finished for the dunes, but its kind of nice just knowing it actually runs
  15. hopefully ill have some pics tomorrow. i have to finish makin 3 mounts, heat wrap the exhaust and weld on the blow off valve... just some little stuff, but its got crap everywhere right now, and i dont like showin stuff that ive worked that hard on when it looks like it does now lol. im really curious as to when the boost is gonna kick in, cuz today i didnt rev it high at all becuase i dont have the blow off valve on, but even at just above an idle, you can feel it suckin pretty hard on the filter. as soon as i get it presentable, ill put up a video if someone can host it. it definitely has a distinct sound to it... but im gonna put a silencer on it before i head down to the dunes.
  16. after about a year of workin on her, i finally kicked it over today. it was my brilliant idea to run a straight pipe off the turbo and that sumbitch is loud. im gonna be tuning it this week and i plan on takin it to coos bay after i get done with finals so if you hear an obnoxiously loud ugly banshee rollin around... thats probably me. ill post up some pics and vid once i get a few things fine tuned.
  17. ya, the warrior and banshee shocks are interchangeable. i actually need it for my banshee, becuase of my current project and being off 1/4" on my measurements the ressy has to go, and also becuase of my project i am broke, so it really only leaves a warrior shock. if someone wants to trade a warrior rear for my banshee rear that would work with me.
  18. preferably mid 90's or newer, but if you have an older one in good shape, that would work also. Thanks, Randy
  19. im retarded. sorry, wrong section
  20. some of my favorites are kenny chesney, tim mcgraw, sammy kershaw, david lee murphy, toby keith, garth brooks, mark chesnutt, alabama, hank williams jr, charlie daniels band, clint black, trace adkins, and montgomery gentry. keith anderson, craig morgan, joe nichols, jason aldean, and rodney atkins have a few good ones also. and ya cant forget johnny cash.

  22. whats your elevation? if you ran 310's with your setup @ sea level or thereabouts, things would get ugly in a hurry. toomey suggests 270-280's with just pipes, when around here pipes alone should be running at the very least 300's. you can always go down if ya need to, but once ya lean it out, its much more expensive to go back up.
  23. as said earlier check your steering stop, but also check out your tie rod ends. if you have one a little further out then the other, itll lock up on ya too.
  24. stock carbs will work fine with that setup, depending on your port you should be running give or take about 350 /32.5's... but always start fat and go down. I know a few people runnin stock carbs on around 60hp shees and theyve been runnin em for years. as far as ruining your motor, i would be more concerned with the timing and milled head. check and see how advanced the timing is, personally i wouldnt go above +5... predet is a bad thing. also, i have seen two milled heads go out becuase there was a pin hole in the stock cast, and when they milled it, well, lets just say they bought a cool head shortly thereafter. if you decide to get carbs anyway, i would get some pwk 28's with that setup... if youre plannin on goin with a stroker in the future, i would wait and just get some 32-34's when the time comes
