jmoore Posted April 4, 2005 Report Posted April 4, 2005 This may be a bit long but bear with me. The story goes like this... My buddy and I just got new shees, as you should know you have seen me around for a couple of months. My bud was talking how he got beat in a drag by a predator. It happened to be on a dirt road so I was like, dude you had no traction, race him on pavement. RIGHT! Well, we hooked up with him today and he beat us both on the asphalt. Granted, I am a new rider and not exactly a pro at racing. BUT, I just had my head shaved, flywheel lightned, and went +4 on the timing, so I was thinking I was going to kick some ass. Guess not! One big problem I know is the launch. We both completely bog down when we try and take off. Not to mention I was doing a wheelie in second. As far as I know his machine was stock. The banshee should walk over this shit. And I know I don't have this thing piped yet but I still should have kicked his ass. I am very competative and do not like to lose. Not even to my buddys shee. Anyways, I needed to vent so I can get some sleep tonight but feel free to lay into me as long as you can throw in a tip or two...!!! Oh yeah, why is it that my mods don't seem to do shit? Quote
Banshee~ Posted April 4, 2005 Report Posted April 4, 2005 practice your take offs, get some pipes. My stock banshee will beat a preadator with a K&N clamp on and the whole airbox removed by a 1/2 length. Quote

Oh yeah, why is it that my mods don't seem to do shit? 349299[/snapback] The few times I've dragged on pavement, I have to tea bag the bars and keep the foot literally on top of the foot brake in case it comes up. If you can, feather the shit outta the clutch, but be careful, as you don't want to burn your clutch plates, or friction weld the push rod and ball that operates your clutch. You might want to start in second as well...dunno...you spend a little bit of time shifting, and you aren't accelerating. Quote
Wassup350 Posted April 4, 2005 Report Posted April 4, 2005 My buddy has a pred and he beat me a few times, its pretty much all about hitting your gears right. I couldnt get the ol shee out of 3rd sometimes and thats when he would pass me. Its all about shifting with the shee. Quote
loganskinner Posted April 4, 2005 Report Posted April 4, 2005 i always just start in second. rev it up and once its go time, like Cotton Eyed Joe said, feather the shit out of the clutch. also, dont worry about what the other rider is doing, where he is at, or if he is passing you and whatnot. it will make you nervous and take your mind off of shifting and doing the shit it takes to win. just worry about what you are doing. and practice practice practice those takeoffs. from my house i can see a stoplight way down the road. i just line up in the field where we ride, and pretend im racing and wait for the light to turn from green to yellow, rev it up, and on red i and haul ass. theres no way to tell when the light will turn yellow, so its a good way for me to practice reaction time and such. locogato11283 Posted April 4, 2005 Report Posted April 4, 2005 predators arent really that slow. i used to have one and it was actually pretty quick..if you are bogging off the line what gear are you starting out in? what gearing? Quote
NYUK Posted April 4, 2005 Report Posted April 4, 2005 it comes down to rider also. you gotta have the nuts to mash the throttle and hold the fuck on no matter what it does.believe me, i have ended up with the bike on top of me more than once.drag racing takes practice,in an evenly matched race, banshee versus pred,it`s whoever gets the jump. WANNA BE UNTOUCHABLE? spend some money on a little portwork and a good set of pipes. Quote
05bansh Posted April 4, 2005 Report Posted April 4, 2005 (edited) Just like NYUK said, get a set of pipes and a port, and you will walk over most machines. Hell I would bet $ that with your mods if you just add pipes and k&n's you would kick his ass. When I first got my shee my brother would kill me on his yfz, then I put my cpi's and k&n's on and he hasnt been able to touch me since. Edited April 4, 2005 by 05bansh Quote
Blue Duece Posted April 4, 2005 Report Posted April 4, 2005 pipes and the tallest gearing you can pull with them and like NYUK said nut up and pinn it Quote
jmoore Posted April 4, 2005 Author Report Posted April 4, 2005 Thanks guys. You made feel better. I do know that its all about the launch so I will have to get some practice in. You know he got the holeshot because of my poor launch but he never pulled away. We were going the same speed, I was just behind him. And I know I need to get some pipes, they are next on the mod list. Quote
SEEMS420 Posted April 4, 2005 Report Posted April 4, 2005 GET PIPES !!!!!! U WILL SMOKE HIM LIKE A JOINT Quote
rocketboy Posted April 4, 2005 Report Posted April 4, 2005 with your current modsyou can just slap a set of rockets on your she and that dude will be eating the corn outta your $hit Quote
RNBRAD Posted April 5, 2005 Report Posted April 5, 2005 Yep so much has to do with the rider. Example: friend of mine has an identical cafe bike, same mods same everything. I would wear him out in the quarter, like 1/3 of a second every time. He thought it was just a difference in bikes so we switched, nope same result almost every time. He's also lighter by 21 lbs, so I just chalked it up that he flat out sucks. His reactions times were good cept I'd beat him to the 60ft mark. I guess he was afraid to launch it as hard as I would. 2004LEBanshee Posted April 5, 2005 Report Posted April 5, 2005 Make it easyer on your self and when your gonna line up turn in the grass reall quick so your tires are a little moist. Then put it in second and get the revs up when its go time just dump the clutch and pin the throttle and get on the bars. it will spin a quick sec and grip like a mofo as it excellerates but it wollnt come all the way up because of the slight lack of traction. When it gets full traction it'll be time for third. then just keep it pinned and shift you cant lose. Quote
sp1tekiller Posted April 5, 2005 Report Posted April 5, 2005 Dood, pipes should have been your first mod Quote
