i had a brain fart earlier, if i was gonna buy a new 125 class bike itd be that crf250r.  those things are badass, and the 450's are even better.  if the height is an issue with him tell him to look into the new yami 4strokes, they have a little lower seat height and its earsier for some shorter dudes to ride them because of it.

I agree,I'd buy the CRF250.It's a very reliable bike,that can put a hurting on the 125's in it's class.

i hate 125's. ive ridden a few and thought they flat out sucked. even if i was a beginner id still buy a 250. just take it easy and work your way up to shit. you can get hurt on a 125 just as easily as a 250..

how do they suck? b/c they dont have the same power as a bigger bike?? not trying to stir anything up just trying to find oupt your reasoning behind why you HATE a 125 there the same size and all as a 250 just with less motor for smaller, less experienced riders

I've riden quads all the time, but I do have an Rm 125 2003. I'd get a four stroke if I could do it again. You really have to work a 125 on trails just because of the low horse power. I'd get a 250 four stroker. Mighht be the best thing to do...

low horse power? they have more HP than the 250 thumpers( which i am refering to as the 250 for this post), but your right about it being tough in trails. the 250 have more controlable power for the average rider, thats why its the more perfered ride for a begginer. i noticed that you always need to be wide open with the 125's which is quite intimidating in trails since they have a pretty wild top end. i got to ride one this weekend, and ellisons kx 125 last weekend, they are very fun bikes let me tell you!!

not to be rude or argue but that is not true. the fourstroke bikes make better power and more of it especially in the 125 class

its cool man everyone gets told something diff. just trying to correct you so someone else doesnt get mistaken. the ktm 125 does make power thats comparable and so does the new 05 yamaha yz125 but they just dont have what it takes..

i really dont think that a 125 is a good beginner bike. you have to do too much clutch work and they are harder to ride than a 250 in my opinion. and yes i dont like them cuz they dont have the power, thats y i dont like them. i would still say buy a 250 and take it easy on it until you learn to ride as opposed to buying an underpowered 125 that will get old real fast once you learn to ride.

EXACTLY....PIA to ride...Always gotta be wound up to get any power...Ridden proper they can turn track times similar to a 250 though...By a few seconds anyway, so obviously they are capable of hauling ass...

actually, bubba stweart was turning 2 second faster lap times on a 125 than carmichael on his 250, last year of course.

Okay everyone,

I had a crf250r and it blew the shit outta a friends kx125. IMO the 125s are more fun to ride. Also, the kx was noticiably lighter and easier to handle in the trails. Im 5'10 also and found the bike nearly perfect height. After getting the shee all i can say is acceleration and top speed are very comprable (i have stock shee), so if hes really looking at getting a shee in the long run he might as well save his money and get one now. If hes set on a dirtbike i would reccomend a two stroke.
