I just bought a set of Wiesco Pro light pistons. They came with the piston rings and I dont know if they are different. By different I mean is one thicker or thinner or which one goes on top or bottom. The instructions don't say anything about it. They just state that the rings can be used on either side meaning up or down. Will you help me out Please. Thanks

i dont think there is a diffrence. i was wondering this AFTER i put them in my shee. i was pretty sure they were the same since i measured them and they came out the same. i havnt had a problem yet!!

They are the same. You should check the ring end gap and put the tighter ring if there is one on the top of the piston. I believe you put the side with the letters facing up as well.

It does not matter which ring goes where as they are the same. When you look at the ring end gap you will notice a letter N or numbering on only one side of the rings and this side faces up.

don't think there is any difference. this Q came up after i put mine in, and if i remember correctly, the response was that the rings are the same.

I have had no problems with mine.

Sweet! Thanks. I'll put em in. Also what type of break in cycle do you run. The Clymers says to run 16:1 premix in it and ride it and let it cool then ride it and let it cool. Is this what you guys did.

Kept the same mixture that i always ran. Just kept it around half throttle for about a tank. After the first tank used more throttle, just blipped it though, dont hold it.

Give it plenty of time to warm up and cool down.

I was told that 1.5 to 2 tanks of riding is sufficient for break in. And those tanks will be the longest tanks ever, all you want to do is get on the throttle. Resist the urge!!! at least for a little while.:headbang:

Adding more premix oil leans out the mixture, you do not want this!!! Just run 32:1 or your preffered mix and like banshdog says, resist the urge. A class I took on 2 strokes suggests only half throttle for about 2 hours runtime. And easy warmup is crucial, especially w/forged pistons.

They are the same.

Very Important

Make sure you check the ring end gap, if the gap is smaller than the minimum in the instructions when the motor gets warm/hot you can score the cylinder walls. If needed just lightly file the end of the ring until the gap is in spec.

You can check this without installing on the piston, just slide the ring into the cylinder and use a feeler gauge.
