STLBILL Posted December 29, 2004 Report Posted December 29, 2004 Hi everyone: Anyone care to persuade me in either direction - Serius or XM? I have Serious on my television satellite service and I love it. Here is what I've been able to glean from the sales people at local consumer electronic stores and other sources: 1. Serius is $13/month. XM is $10/month. Equipment is about the same. 2. Serious has almost all major sports except MLB. They are on XM only. 3. Maybe good. Maybe bad. Serius will soon have Howard Stern (bad for me). 4. XM comes in a lot of loaded new vehicles. Serius doesn't seem to be so lucky. If anyone has any thoughts please advise. I think I am going to go with Serius soon because I am getting hooked on Channel 21 - Alternative Nation. It's an alternative rock music station. It seems so nice to not have to listen to commercials! Thanks in advance, Bill Quote
FadedDreams Posted December 29, 2004 Report Posted December 29, 2004 I plan on buying a Sirius so i can listen to Stern once he moves there in 2006.But if had a choice,i would go with the Xm and their cheaper monthly fees.Only thing that is helping Sirius is the fact that they have Stern and they better hope he pays off because they are paying him $500 million. As far as your choice,do you want NFL,Stern and $13 a month,or MLB,$10 a month, and whatever else they have going for them. Otis Posted December 29, 2004 Report Posted December 29, 2004 3. Maybe good. Maybe bad. Serius will soon have Howard Stern That's the reason i'm getting it..... Quote
baudy Posted December 29, 2004 Report Posted December 29, 2004 I would have to say that I am more towards Sirius, due to the fact that I own stock in them. Plus they have alot better research and development than XM does. Just my 2 cents for anyone who cares... Quote
blk02banshee Posted December 29, 2004 Report Posted December 29, 2004 Serius will soon have Howard Stern (bad for me). 299237[/snapback] I agree If I was getting sattelite radio, it would be XM, only because I don't want stern getting a nickel of MY money. I can listen to Mancow for free, and he does'nt have to use foul language to be funny. Quote
sredish Posted December 29, 2004 Report Posted December 29, 2004 I've been listening to satellite for well over a year and I'd never listen to anything else. I bought it because I live in the country and my work takes just beyond the range of D/FW radio and I can't stand radio going in and out, so with satellite it never does. Well, I never turn on regular radio, i don't even think my antenna's hooked up at the moment. I'm on the satellite radio 85% of the time, if not I'm jammin to some cd's I made. Sirius is the better service. XM is more popular because they beat Sirius to the punch in coming out, but Sirius are the ones who designed/developed it and took etra time to make sure they got it right, and in the next few years will be the forerunner, guaranteed. I'm so confident in Sirius that I bought a shitload of shares of their stock way back when. Quote
wesw Posted December 29, 2004 Report Posted December 29, 2004 (edited) my 2 cents on this. i have one unit xm in my peterbilt, another xm in my z71/house. i will never listen to regular radio again it just sucks. the only time i do is for like shows like don and mike, tom lyckis, love line. regular radio plays the same stupid ass song with their WACKY dj which i cant stand. annoying as hell. i havent listent to sirrus, im sure its almost the same. sirrus has some problems iwth money, they were paying for pam anderson to fly around and shit adn her show was only one for like 1 hr a day. basically sirrus is in money problems but i sure they will get over it. stern would be good to listen to but he rants adn bitchs more than the typical women. plus he invented radio. the only bitch about it is that when you get in to a no signal place like under a bridge it sucks. there is always something to listen to, just change the channel. 100 channel of music almost xm 48 squizz, 152 extreme, 65 the rhyme, 66 raw, 46 top tracks are my favorite. either way you wont be dissatisfied. plus its unedit most of the time so you get the cussing. one more thing i loaded in st joe mo, drove to conway nc. listened to the same channel the whole way. it was great rock on Edited December 29, 2004 by wesw Quote

I was gonna get sirius but they are all sold out. My friend also got sirius but he just had a home thing that you can take out of a stereo and put it in a car. But the car kits were all sold out. He called around and all the stores around here are sold out. the factory cant even keep up with production either, they are all out of stock for most products i guess also. Quote

I remember seeing it at like 60 cents and thinking I need to get some. But I waited to see what it was gonna do. it got to a buck and said f it, I'm getting some. I'm hoping they'll split and then keep going up for some extra dough to the company, which I think could be possible, and get me more dough..... damn I love money, if I could figure out how to quit spending it on the banshee.... stevo3176 Posted December 29, 2004 Report Posted December 29, 2004 I have Xm and I love it. I got it because I want to hear alot of good music at a cheap price. If I want sports I would watch it on TV so that didn't affect my opinion. But if I were to listen to sport i would choose baseball (XM)l over football(sirius). Baseball can be listen to and enjoyed but football needs to be watched to be appreciate. The other great thing about xm is that is is cheaper than sirus for just about the same product. You can also get multi year plans that make it even cheaper. I got mine for 3 years for about 7.80 a month. As for sirius being a ahead on R&D I think that is the farthest thing from the truth. Sirius equipement is garbage compared to xm. There stuff looks like it belongs in some kids car with neon subs, blinky tachs and all that over done stuff. Xm's stuff is clean and easy to use. Plus xm is ahead with the MYfi personal xm reciever. We shall see how well and long it takes sirius to do that. The one thing that sirius has that xm doesn't is Howard. I personally used to love him but I'd much rather watch him on the E channel than to listen to him on the radio. Again I went into sat radio for music not talk shows or sports which I can see on TV any day at home. Quote
SICK BOY Posted December 29, 2004 Report Posted December 29, 2004 I get Sirius for free with my dish, but when it comes to a unit for my truck it's XM.I maybe a little bias because the company I work for makes the XM radios. Quote
