I just started up my banshee last night for the first time in about 2 weeks and it started to backfire on the left side. It only backfires on the left side, and when i put my hand in front of the silencer, the exhaust is cold. It ran fine 2 weeks ago but not now. Sometimes it has a hard time starting, so we just pour gas down through the head and it starts right up. Maybe it is the spark plug boot because sometimes it comes off of the wire. I didn't have time to check it but is there anything else it could be like jetting, etc.

I would definately check your compression. How do your plugs look? Tried new set?

Check for air leaks...fire it up & spray carb cleaner around the intakes & see if it revs.

Clean carbs good, if you haven't already.

After checking those, I'd check your stator and coil....clymers has the specs.

I would get ya some new "loaded" plug caps. Mention to the parts dude that they are for a banshee. They need a resistor built into the cap. After you have the new caps, trip about 1/2" off the end of the plug wires, and install new caps. Then, install the new spark plugs that you also bought while you were at the parts counter geting the caps. See what that does.

im guessin plugged pilot maybe. id clean the carbs first and change the plugs and see what happens. if that doesnt work then definetely do what the other guys said as im sure the solution lies in their posts.

I kind of had the same problem with my banshee. It only had like 8 hours on it and the left side was not firing right! So I took it into motoworld and they said some how the carb got all out of wack and the firing pin kept getting stuck. It was not smoking and back firing really bad too. Maybe that's your problem?

No shit.

If that's quoted from your dealer, take my advise & don't ever go there again. ;)

Take a look at your reeds also, could be cracked or chipped.

did you leave the gas off when you parked it and how has the weather been, i would bet money on it that you have a pilot in the carb on the side that is backfiring stopped up, clean the carbs and your problem should be gone

I turn the gas off every time i am done riding because for some reason, the gas drips out of the overflow on the carbs until i turn it off. I do not run the gas out of the carbs though, i just turn the gas off as soon as shut her down. The weather is kinda funny because it gets really cold, then it gets warm, all over night.

its yor carbs man , if it was running good when you parked it, plugs dont just decide to go bad while they are not being used. neither do reeds, but when you have no gas in your carb the oil from the gas will gel up and clog your pilots.

Classic sign of a fouled plug.  You say you dont ride much.....  Change your plugs and give it a kick, fuck all that loaded plug shit.  ROOKIE@#$@
