cgamla Posted November 13, 2004 Report Posted November 13, 2004 Hey Gents been battlin this problem for a while now. I did a total rebuild a while back with two new sleeves, wiseco pistons, new hot rods crank. My trouble is the damn thing just smokes more from the left side than the right. I have an ADA head and Trinity stage 4 33 mm carb set up with FMF fattys . I originally thought the thing was sucking tranny oil between the cases and I have split it 3 (count em ) 3 times looking for a potential leak . The o-rings on the head are in great shape and I just can't figure what the hell is going on. The crosshaches on the cylinder walls are still there and I hold about 140 lbs of compression on both sides with 20 cc domes at sea level. I have switched around my jetting some and chaged premix oils in hopes of finding some type of change but nothing yet. What the the hell is going on here. I'm not losing coolant or oil, could it be the reeds? They are a little old but still look really healthy. Anybody else with the 2-1 carb setup had this problem? Thanks for any help Chad Quote
bansheekid409 Posted November 14, 2004 Report Posted November 14, 2004 i think its common for 2-1 carbs to smoke like that but im not sure. have you done a leak down test? do that and see what happens. what i dont understand with these carbs though is when you tip the bike to the left how gas gets in the right cylinder. maybe someone can explain that. sounds like it was fun though none the less. Wallynut Posted November 14, 2004 Report Posted November 14, 2004 I don't have more smoke coming from one side then the other with my 2 into1 . Either your reeds are the problem or your leaking in air on one cylinder. Spray some starting fluid around your manifold/reed and see if the idle increases. Quote
sredish Posted November 14, 2004 Report Posted November 14, 2004 I was gonna say an air leak also. My 2-1 doesn't do that nor is it a common thing with the single carb. There is obviously something going on with that cylinder. Air leak or reed issue is a good first place to check. Quote
FIRST BANSHEE Posted November 14, 2004 Report Posted November 14, 2004 I agree that it's not the 2-1 intake, if it's not the reeds or a air leak,I was wondering how fresh is your rebuild. mine smoked a little more out of the left side when it was not completely broke in. Quote
frocashmoney24 Posted November 14, 2004 Report Posted November 14, 2004 i'd check with a airleak on that side to, i dont have probs with my 2-1 either, how much time do u have on that topend, did you break it all in yet? Quote
PUSH THE THROTTLE Posted November 14, 2004 Report Posted November 14, 2004 I also think its got to be that cylinder. One of the benefits of the 2 into 1 is that it will equalize the cylinders. Mine smokes the same and it'd be easy to notice since my exhaust exits are about 2 inches apart. Quote
cgamla Posted November 14, 2004 Author Report Posted November 14, 2004 I have gone through the break in procedure and now am on about my 4th tank of gas. I been running Bel ray HR 1 at about 40 to 1. I have looked for leaks . Done the carb and choke cleaner trick and found nothing. Maybe next week I'll replace the reeds and then just drive the piss out of it for a while. Thanks gents. Quote
Leadfoot350 Posted November 16, 2004 Report Posted November 16, 2004 If you were sucking tranny oil the right cylinder would be smoking. I think your rings might not be seating that well. Do you have 140 comp in both cylinders? You might also check if the reeds are cracked or loose. Quote
