ffemtmm Posted September 8, 2004 Report Posted September 8, 2004 I happened on to a deal on a 03 Banshee with a few Mods on it. The quad is in good shape except for the fact it doesn't run. From what the previous owner tells me, and what I have seen in the little work I've done on it. I think he burned up a piston. I'm new to the 2-stroke game so I'm looking for some basic jetting and mixture settings so when I rebuild this thing it doesn't melt down again. Its an 03 Banshee with Toomey T-5s, K&N air filters (no airbox) adjustable stator plate, and a cool head, not sure what size domes in the head. Any suggestions on where to start with jetting, air/fuel mixture, fuel ratio and oil would be appreciated. Quote
SHEEBANSAVAGE Posted September 9, 2004 Report Posted September 9, 2004 what is the altitude above sea level you are at? Quote
Big Blue Posted September 9, 2004 Report Posted September 9, 2004 have you rebuilt it yet? i would pull the head and check the domes or atleast do a compression check, as for jetting i would start in the 330/340 range and go from there. i run my oil at 40:1 but there are many other options. Quote
ffemtmm Posted September 9, 2004 Author Report Posted September 9, 2004 I live and ride in an area that is about 600 to 700 ft. above sea level. Most of my riding is wide open (fast) trails and accasionally dunes. I haven't started to rebuild yet, I'm waiting for funds to become available. When I do rebuild, my emphasis will be on reliability and durability rather than all out performance. Although a few extra ponies wounldn't be a bad thing. Any thoughts or comments would be appreciated. Thanks all. ffemtmm Quote
FasterTHENyou Posted September 9, 2004 Report Posted September 9, 2004 Start around a 340 and see how it runs. Quote
pimpeinkc Posted September 14, 2004 Report Posted September 14, 2004 i have had two of my friends burn up pistons out at the dunes, one had a 280 jet and the other a 300, both had t-6 pipes, one had v force and one stock cages, both had dyna ignitions. the only thing they truly had in comon was the 18 cc domes and pump gas. we never thought nothing about it till the second bike had a problem, i have t-6 rad valves and a dyna, i have 17 cc domes. now that 2 bikes have melted pistons we have been thinking about it and they recomend race fuel for any thing under 20 cc. that is the only real link we have found to melting pitons. too much heat with the pump gas, although i have not melted yet i am going to switch domes for pump gas. it could be some thing else which caused a lean condition but till i am able to buy the add ons i will switch domes. SDD Posted September 14, 2004 Report Posted September 14, 2004 With advanced timing and a lot of compression you better be running race gas... no amount of pump fuel will keep that thing from detonating. Let us know what compression you have and what the timing is. Quote
ffemtmm Posted September 14, 2004 Author Report Posted September 14, 2004 Thanks for the input, I will be rebuilding my quad with the intent of durability more than all out performance. I also intend to use pump gas (premium). Did I read correctly, I should be using head domes of 20cc or larger? What size are stock heads? I also have an adjustable stator plate, where should my timing be set? Any thoughts on which Pre-mix oil to use? Quote
AZ DESERT RACER Posted September 16, 2004 Report Posted September 16, 2004 Somewhere i read that the equal to a stock head is 22cc. Hope I'm right & good luck Quote
