A buddy of mine has a frined who wants to get rid of a RZ350 motor. Let's assume it is the liquid cooled version and runs sweet, How much is it worth, is it worth it and would it just bolt into a banshee chasis?

$1500, I am sure I can get it for a lott less than that. I have an extra chasis and shocks laying around and it probablay would not be that hard to find a complete rolling chasis. I never really thought of the RZ motor approach but hell if I can get one rellatively cheap I can have a spare motor laying around.

the motor is only worth 4 to 5 hundred depending on what bore its on and if any porting has been done. Price range on a complete Rz bike is between 1500 and 3000.

Thanks guys for the price range. I will see this week how much he wants.

Will the RZ motor bolt right in, and what about pipes and ignition and all that other stuff? WOuld this be an expensive project ($2000 +) and would it be worth it?

I dont think it is worth it how are you goin to set up power valves and actuators for same and standard banshee cylinders dont bolt up the front of the case is abot 15mm to short and you will get a water leak trust me i have tried

My goal , was that if it was cheap enough and I did not have to dick around with things it may be worth it. I have to figure that I will have to buy the motor and do a complete rebuild, So I will probably spend just $1000 alone on the motor and if it costs me another arm and a leg to get the bike useable, heck with it I will just spend $5000 and buy a new 2006. But since I do not know what is involved with this project it is tough to make a detemination. Oh ya, I just want to bolt the motor in as J.J said.

All i was saying is it will be alot of trouble because Rzs have power valves that are mechanical not numatic and if he wanted to change the cylinders to standard so he didnt have to run powervalves you cant because the cylinders dont match the cases thats what i was goin on about. :D

Since there seems to be a discussion here from people who have never done it, I will start by saying that it is worth it. I have been riding mine now for about 18 months. It is a great swap for anyone that can't run wide open all the time everywhere they go. I had actually forgotten just how shitty the Banshee motor is until I bought a stocker the other day.

While you can't use RZ cases with Banshee jugs, you can use Banshee cases with RZ jugs. The only downfall I have found with using a complete RZ motor is the gear ratios make it just seem slower. I have riiden a complete swap and mine which is RZ jugs on a Banshee bottom end.

To do what I did is pretty simple, it's the wiring that sucks. The RZ wiring harness get's hacked down to about 1/3 of the original wires.

I have also found that some people can't set the powervalves up either. The valves are set to move a set distance, but you can set the start and stop incorrectly. That is almost always the culprit of one that just doesn't run the way it should. When mine was ported the builder actually drilled a hole in my cylinders and powervalves so all I had to do was stick a toothpick through there and adjust the cables to hold them at that point.

I like the motor so much I bought another top end to turn into a stroker. I do believe it was a great swap, it gives the Bansheethe motor it should have had from the Factory. The only part that sucks about putting the complete motor in is the gear ratios, but that turd can be shined with changing front are rear cogs.

Good luck, if you have any questions, just PM me.

yeah its worth it!

not too hard - it was a fun project

an rz motor in greta shape will fetch about a grand, a little more with all electronics

i have the rz tranny still - if I did it again, I would use the banshee bottom end

wiring sucks, but once its done - you appreciate it!

I actually may be parting mine out soon. If your interested in the motor PM me. I already have the exhasut flanges made, and I even have a set of Rocket pipes that will fit it (imagine that)

I have 3 banshees now - I want to be down to 1 banshee, and a 450 by the end of the year

i say well worth it i have run mine for about 2 years now and like every said the wiring is the down side but i just made my own loom up which is very basic .

run run mx and xc here in the uk so i have no lights or ignition switch just keep it simple and it's easy

I got a hold of my friend last Friday to try to find out more about the motor. From what he says the motor is out of an 1984 and the guy has been riding his bike with no problems. The reason why he is gettign rid of it is becasue the motor isn't the original VIN number of that was assighned to the frame. So the first thing is to get a price from this guy, If good, I will get the VIN numbers off the motor and make sure it is a 1984. If so I then need to make sure I can Register the quad after the fact since I plan on just installing the motor on a chasis, unless I can find a rolling chasis with a blown motor in which I will just swap jugs. I will keep you all posted as time goes on. And if price is to high for me if you would like I will give you contact information. Thanks for all your help.
