ruff_rida69 Posted January 28, 2004 Report Posted January 28, 2004 well today I sent a buddy of mine a e-mail and later on I gotta e-mail back in my junk mail folder saying mail delivery failed and open it up, and didn't think anything about it, well I just found out a few hours ago on msn that it's a new virus , so i think I got it, so my advise is if you get something like this delete it right fast and download an anti-virus if you don't have one "I'm downloading one right now" and hopefully no one will get this P.O.S virus, and also msn says it go's out 1 in every 12 e-mails sent and that it's the worst virus they have seen so far! just thought i would post this and give every one a heads up if it comes there way. ruff_rida69 Posted January 28, 2004 Author Report Posted January 28, 2004 well I just got done download and running anti-virus and had 13 virus's, and just talked to my friend and he had over 50 on his computer yesterday, so if I was all of ya'll I would run a virus scanning program. Quote
efward Posted January 28, 2004 Report Posted January 28, 2004 This has been a particularly nasty one. Same old lesson though. Don't open attachments that can run code. Quote
. Posted January 28, 2004 Report Posted January 28, 2004 thats why I run Yahoo mail, the only way you can get a virus from an email is by downloading a file directly to your computer. It's like looking at a website, not something that is part of your computer. I've gotten a few of those emails and sent one to yahoo about it and they said dont worry about it, just dont d/l something. Quote
fixitrod Posted January 28, 2004 Report Posted January 28, 2004 I had 5 of them come in yesterday. It's a binary code. It may look like a noepad txt attachment. If you don't know who your mail is from, don't even open it. Quote
SHEe DEVIL Posted January 28, 2004 Report Posted January 28, 2004 Ive had 12 of them come in since yesterday . Im about to run the scan again just to make sure they are out. If I dont get them out and the cable company sees them in the system for over 2 or 3 days all my outgoing stuff will be shut down till they get out. I hope that all made sense. Later Jen Quote
fixitrod Posted January 28, 2004 Report Posted January 28, 2004 shee devil, if they do lock the email, just go to the web page and check you email. Delete them from there and you'll be fine. I use comcast... www.comcast.net . I had a friend who had the trouble you are taliking about. He just logged on, put in the password for comcast and deleted those emails from there. Then his outlook express started working again. Quote
Checkmate Posted January 28, 2004 Report Posted January 28, 2004 i'm the administrator at my company and we run a corporate version of norton on our server which checks all incoming mail when it arrives. it also runs realtime protection on each machine connected to the server. In the past 2 days i've had over 2000 emails come in with this new virus, and it's getting worse. just had about 100 in the last hour. One thing to do if you are using Outlook, you should turn off your auto preview pane (if you have it enabled). This is the bottom half of the inbox window which allows you to read (preview) your emails. This essentially opens the email and can run the code in the virus. So turn that off and delete any incomming mail with attachments. most emials that i've been seeing with the virus have an 'undeliverable.....' in the subject line. common case of address spoofing. you should also have a virus program running at all times, and if your not using web based email, have the virus software configured to check your incomming email on your Outlook. boonman Posted January 28, 2004 Report Posted January 28, 2004 I have gotten more crap from that auto preview pane than anything. Friggin thing..... Quote
