Nutz Posted January 5, 2004 Report Posted January 5, 2004 Hello All, I have a stock 2002 with no mods as of yet. My question is about the air filter and air box. I mainly ride trails and fields with some mud and water and would like to know if I should keep the stock air box or remove it. I was looking at the K+N twin filter setup with outerwares. I will probly have to rejet for the K+Ns correct??? Any filter input would help. Thanks...... Quote
ruff_rida69 Posted January 5, 2004 Report Posted January 5, 2004 if your gonna be riding in mud and water i would keep the air box and just put a clamp-on adapter on it and put a K&N clamp on filter you can get one at www.nossmachine.com or other places. Quote
2001SSTBanshee Posted January 5, 2004 Report Posted January 5, 2004 I, personally, dont care for K&N filters. I ran the pro design flange with the foam that came with it for years with no problems. Something to think about- (On my YFZ at least) a similar flange and air filter to the PD was availabe for about 100 bucks. The whole aluminun airbox made by UM includes that flange on it and a K&N for 200. Of coarse I told them to keep it and they gave me the airbox for $30 cheaper. This particular box will fit any 250R filter, so I'm gonna pick up a Twin Air. (my favorite) Quote
juldan1 Posted January 5, 2004 Report Posted January 5, 2004 I run the prodesign adapter kit with the foam. Works damn good. You could vent the air box and go up a couple main sizes. Quote
ledofthezep Posted January 5, 2004 Report Posted January 5, 2004 I've ran the clamp on K&N's...am now running the toomey 2:1 w/UNI & outerwear. I prefer the 2:1 over the K&N's 100%. It filters just as good as the K&N's, requires less maintinance, and I don't have to try & dodge every little water puddle on a trail, and I don't have to replace the outerwears contstantly. Just my $.02 Quote
Nutz Posted January 5, 2004 Author Report Posted January 5, 2004 Well, I guess I have my answers. I will be going with the pro design with uni. Thanks for all the great input......Brian Quote
MILO Posted January 6, 2004 Report Posted January 6, 2004 pro design with foam filters, w/o the lid. no problems in any conditions. Quote
909 Posted January 9, 2004 Report Posted January 9, 2004 Well, I guess I have my answers. I will be going with the pro design with uni. Thanks for all the great input......Brian Brian, Something else to remember, if you ride in the mud/water the k&n will clog and you're screwed 'till it dries. At least with the foam you can wring it out on the trail to get you home. If you vent the box, keep the vents low in the box so they act as a drain as well. You can also remove the drain cover in a pinch but keep it on 'till you actually get water in there. Quote
evil Posted January 9, 2004 Report Posted January 9, 2004 get the uni with the foam outer wrap, its thick enough to soak up alot of water just incase, and you can remove it and continue on or ring it out and it dries up rather quickly. Quote
