tlh96 Posted January 8, 2023 Report Posted January 8, 2023 I was told that if I sand the scratches out of my plastics working my way up to the finest paper I can then go over them with a heat gun until they are as smooth as possible then coat them with a good car wax they will look brand new. Anybody know if that's true? I'm scared to see for myself. Quote
hoppedupandcutdown Posted January 8, 2023 Report Posted January 8, 2023 WAAAAY WAAAY WAAY WAY more trouble than it is worth. Time and materials... Better to buy new. Honest. But try a small spot (start to finish) UNDER a fender first. Quote

Honest. But try a small spot (start to finish) UNDER a fender first. I don't care about a bit of work I was just wondering if anybody has done this and what the results were. I don't have the money for $1000 OEM plastics and I think the rounded corners on most aftermarket plastics are uglier than the scratches. I didn't think about trying a spot under the plastics. I feel like an idiot now 🤣 Quote
hoppedupandcutdown Posted January 9, 2023 Report Posted January 9, 2023 Keep in mind with every step in grit, you have to remove ALL the scratches left by the previous grit. Work your way to at least 3000 then try heat or polish. Quote
SKEETER Posted January 9, 2023 Report Posted January 9, 2023 Start with a 8" polisher with 60 grit, thatll get the scratches out Quote
