RoccothebeastQC Posted March 30, 2017 Report Posted March 30, 2017 Hi Guys, Hope everybody going great today! I just purchased a 2007 banshee with YFZ450 shock on it. I'm not really for this mod but you know, got it like this. Considering that I'll probably put LSR 2+ 1+ with elka STG3 next year, I just want to run safe for this season. Don't want to break a ball joint at high speed you know I don't want to trash money and buy lowering kit from Ebay for make this fit correctly, anyway everything will get out of there this winter during entire rebuilt. My plan: Cut out 3 row of the progressive coil spring section (upper one), I know what some people will say but for sure, I'll be sure to not cut too much so the spring can stay loaded under entire shock extension. But this way front of the quad will drop around 2-3 inch and ball joint will return at their safe spot (straith) good idea? some people already made this? any experience? any other idea? Let me know guys! thanks _Steve_ Quote
trickedcarbine Posted March 30, 2017 Report Posted March 30, 2017 There are arms from Fireball made to work with that shock. 1 Quote
RoccothebeastQC Posted March 30, 2017 Author Report Posted March 30, 2017 I know this info, but don't want to spend money on this shitty mod.... OEM shock wasn't came with the shee when I bought it so...... try to find a quick safe fix! Quote
trickedcarbine Posted March 30, 2017 Report Posted March 30, 2017 New shocks for the arms you want. Or buy arms nice arms built to work with the shocks you have. There is no cheap & safe alternative. FYI, banshee and cheap are not a reality. Quote
RoccothebeastQC Posted March 30, 2017 Author Report Posted March 30, 2017 Can someone just answer to my topic? I'm not this kind of guy trying to cheap everywhere.... but for now just spent 3400$ on this banshee and need to put 4k on my golf R32 so.... Cut the spring out or trade for OEM Shock ? Quote
RagunCajun Posted March 30, 2017 Report Posted March 30, 2017 You should not cut springs. You should not run oem shocks with yfz450 arms. You should use arms made for banshee geometry. I ran yfz450 arms/shocks on my banshee years ago. It was awful. Quote

You got an answer. Buy arms to work with the shocks you and be happy, or find a set of used shocks to work on your stock arms. Your answer was that you don't wanna spend money on a shitty mod. The fireball arms are not shitty, and in all reality, neither are Yfz shocks. But when the YFZ shocks are on stock banshee arms it's not a good combination. However those shocks on a set of control arms made to work with the banshee geometry and that has the proper placement of the shock, they are actually a pretty decent set up. Don't go cutting up coils or buying lowering brackets. Quote

Ducman Posted March 30, 2017 Report Posted March 30, 2017 I'm a fat guy and the stock banshee shocks were way too weak for me. I've been running YFZ450 shocks on the stock arms for years with no issues. I like the increased ride height and I have never been able to make them bottom out. I have the preload on the shocks backed off as much as possible. Didn't know someone had made arms for the shock swap, I'm going to have to look into that. Quote
