so i bought a cheap $30 +-10 degree adjustable timing plate from ebay, installed it at set it to +4 where the 2 cases meet, set my pickup coil to 18 thousands, then i went to fire it up and nothing. my banshee started up easily with one kick before this. pulled the plugs and checked for spark and it was good. then set the timing to 0 and still no start. installed my old non adjustable timing plate and bam fired up with ease. can anyone shed some light?

Sometimes those cheap plates are covered in a gnarly thick silver paint / powder coat. It helps hide defects. Any chance that yours is and you weren't getting a good electrical ground?

Maybe, but I checked for spark by removing both plugs, connecting the plug wire then setting them on top of the head and I'm getting plenty of spark, but I'm gonna take it to work today and strip the paint, thanks for the tip I hadn't thought of that
