hercalmighty Posted September 6, 2014 Author Report Posted September 6, 2014 Thanks sleeper. That's what I was looking for. It seems like the biggest issue with cranks failing is the rods themselves or shitty true and welds. As far as forged vs billet webs, there are lots of people running hot rod 4mil cranks with the big bores so I don't think that's an issue. I hear pros and cons with both setups. If I was building a full on drag bike I would go billet but this is just a play bike. Quote
locogato11283 Posted September 6, 2014 Report Posted September 6, 2014 I would go forged. You can buy a brand new forged for the price of rebuilding a billet. I've broken both so I'm not partial to either. My old 10mm DM was built by M&M back in 2010 with a forged crank. It's still running with the original crank today. Quote
hercalmighty Posted September 6, 2014 Author Report Posted September 6, 2014 Who's forged crank did you use Tyler? Was it one of Andy's cranks? Quote
trickedcarbine Posted September 6, 2014 Report Posted September 6, 2014 What's Andy been up to. Seems like he went for the new Powersports dealership and you just don't hear much after the switch to NLPS Quote
hercalmighty Posted September 6, 2014 Author Report Posted September 6, 2014 Hmm. Might have to give Andy a call and see if he is still building those cranks. You are right Tricked. Hardy hear from him any more. He is good dude. I had him cut me some cheetah domes about a year ago. Quote
hercalmighty Posted January 10, 2015 Author Report Posted January 10, 2015 Quick update. I emailed Andy today to see if he is still building his own cranks. He said he is still building them. He is building 4mm, 7mm, and 10mm cranks. Quote
trickedcarbine Posted January 10, 2015 Report Posted January 10, 2015 Kick ass, he was the first one to start testing different rods when the wang crisis hit. Quote
hercalmighty Posted January 10, 2015 Author Report Posted January 10, 2015 Yeah. Damn good prices too. 400 for the 4mm and 650 for the 7mm and 10mm. Comes with max load on the pto side Quote
trickedcarbine Posted January 10, 2015 Report Posted January 10, 2015 Are those WSM cranks holding up? Quote
gusto Posted January 10, 2015 Report Posted January 10, 2015 Where can I see these cranks online? I have always heard 7mil and up make sure you buy billet and its either twister or crank works. Is this a myth? Sure would like to pay half price for the same quality. Quote
trickedcarbine Posted January 10, 2015 Report Posted January 10, 2015 Myth for sure. Both quality Forged and Billits break just as much as one another. IMO, not worth the $300-500 difference. I've even destroyed a 4mm twister crank in one season, when in the same motor a HotRods lived for 3. Quote
registered user Posted January 10, 2015 Report Posted January 10, 2015 It seems like the biggest issue with cranks failing is the rods themselves been more than 1 or 2 rods snap in half thats for sure Quote
