I noticed coolant leaking from one of the head studs. The nut was loose so I began to tighten it but the head stud was coming with it. Pulled the head and found the head was stripped. Not the stud but the threaded female portion on the jug. What are my options here? Can I get a larger head stud and tap out the jug? This will also require drilling the hole larger on the head. Is there some high temp compound I can use to set the head stud back in?

Time cert or heilicoil.

question is why did it strip? Was it overheated or over torqued

If it was leaking coolant and you have a coolhead maybe it was just an oring gone bad

Heli coils are more user friendly to the average person I have used both time certs and heli coils both wil hold up no problem. Heli coil can be done in frame no problem , time cert I like to have jug off and in drill press or bridgport

I used a heli-coil on one of my head studs and it worked great. Just make sure you get the heli-coil far enough down in the threads so the stud is installed at the proper depth. This is especially critical if using acorn nuts.
