Blanky86 Posted November 26, 2013 Report Posted November 26, 2013 I have a 2002 Banshee mostly stock. Last seasons was my first season with it, and it was running fine for most of the season. Now I can not get it start by kicking it over. I can bump start it once it is warmed up i can turn it off and then kick start it, but that intitial start up it has to be bumped. I am not really sure where to start? Or even what to look for? Quote
rjdgriff Posted November 26, 2013 Report Posted November 26, 2013 How is your spark? How's your jetting? Have you checked compression? Filters clean? Quote
Blanky86 Posted November 26, 2013 Author Report Posted November 26, 2013 There is new spark plugs in it I pulled them and they are sparking. Air filters clean. I am not sure about the jetting, I cleaned the carbs at the beginning of the season bike ran perfectly for several trips, and from one trip to the next is when the problem occured. Would compression matter if it bump starts? Quote
03DMshee Posted November 26, 2013 Report Posted November 26, 2013 Check compression...dont even bother looking any where else until you check compression Quote
87sheerips Posted November 26, 2013 Report Posted November 26, 2013 time for a top end rebuild bud. Quote
BUILDER Posted November 26, 2013 Report Posted November 26, 2013 Yep you have a wore out topend. Check compression and get back to us. Quote
oldskool Posted November 27, 2013 Report Posted November 27, 2013 My guess is low compression, or did somebody already say that? Quote
03DMshee Posted November 27, 2013 Report Posted November 27, 2013 ^^^^^^fuck! I forgot all about the valves! Quote
Jereme6655 Posted November 27, 2013 Report Posted November 27, 2013 Like some of the other guys have said.....it sounds as if you need a top end rebuild. Your compression should be in the realm of 125psi per cylinder on a fresh rebuild.....at about 110 I where you start having problems kick starting them. Yes you can still bump start a bike that is that low....main reason being because you can gain that much more rotational force and speed. My suggestion to you is to get yourself a Clymers manual and do lots of research on here....maybe even see if you can find someone near you that is on here that wouldn't mind giving a hand... Quote
Blanky86 Posted November 27, 2013 Author Report Posted November 27, 2013 Thanks for the feed back I picked up a compression tool from auto zone and going to check it this weekend during my turkey coma. I also looked at top end rebuild kits ranging from 130-260 dollars. I see that a lot of guys use wiesco over others are they just a higher quality kit? Quote
oldskool Posted November 27, 2013 Report Posted November 27, 2013 Wiseco should be better than Namura. I've used both with no problems. Just read ad carefully, most time price difference is what all you get with kit. pistons, gaskets, rings, wrist pin, circlips, needle bearings Quote

If you're gonna do a rebuild and the cylinders don't need bored, you can't use the wiseco piston or any forged piston if you currently have a stock or other cast piston. If you don't need a bore you can probably get a stock replacement cast piston (Namura, etc.) and hone and put it in. Just FYI. Quote
