LiveFast Posted June 1, 2013 Report Share Posted June 1, 2013 Helping out a friend on his banshee, and the transmission seems like it doesn't want to shift into gear. We put the top case on and put a few bolts in and it seemed to help a little. It hangs on the point of the shift star, and you kind of have to shake the transmission to get it to fall into place. We took the transmission out one of the times and the forks were doing fine on the drum. When I put the shift shaft in the case, it seemed like it was a little warped, but nothing major. Just a little bit of wiggling and it went through the seal. We've adjusted it and it doesn't seem to help. I'm really not sure if there's anything wrong but I have a link to my photobucket account below. If you guys could help in any way, i'd appreciate it. The cases aren't sealed, and the shaft for the clutch isn't down in the case because we're waiting on the bearing to come in. I just wanted to make sure and see what's normal for it to do when none of it is pieced together before we sealed the cases. I've done everything that the clymer manual says to do except seal the cases and put the clutch in the top case and I still don't know what to do. hoppedupandcutdown Posted June 1, 2013 Report Share Posted June 1, 2013 Looks to me as if you have a bunch of slop in your shift pawl pivot. Build you a piece of straight metal that bolts to the lower left 2 case holes and will hold the shift shaft in where the side cover would, that way you can see exactly where it will ride once the cover is on. LiveFast Posted June 1, 2013 Author Report Share Posted June 1, 2013 We ended up not putting the plate in place of the side cover. Instead, we would hold it against the case and shift it. It seemed like the transmission shaft where the front cog bolts up has slack in it up and down when we would try to shift it while we had the top case sitting on it. What i'm trying to ask is, are you supposed to be able to shift from 1st through 6th without any problems with out the top case bolted on? My friend is ordering a new shift shaft assembly right now. Even when these things are put together correctly when not running and driving or not being able to rock the bike back and forth it's not going to go into every gear. Try spinning your sprocket shaft back and forth as you try to shift, if the motor is out. If it's in rock the bike back and forth it will catch gears. I did a complete nut and bolt restoration, and it feels like every time I do something, something else needs work... I'm at the point of burning it... The motor is out now... I resplit the case double checked the forks and gear position, did shift star mod, the transmission cycled through all the gears with a couple of half shifts, probably due to my hand not feeding the shaft correctly...
